Stupid Things In Ns

<div class="IPBDescription">What's being done about them?</div> A little list of stupid things the dev team hasn't addressed, hasn't mentioned any plans on fixing, and have been brought up time and time again.
<span style='color:orange'>
Stupid Thing One: Seeing the names of cloaked enemies when you point your gun at them. Wowiee. How'd this one slip by?
Stupid Thing Two: Fades are visible and vulnerable when blinking WHY? Last time I checked it was 'Blink' and not 'Run and hovar without flapping'.
Stupid Thing Three: Marines get this 360 degree eyes-on-the-back-of-their-head 'camera' that alerts them to enemies who are sneaking up. It's called the 'minimap'. Yeah maybe you've heard of it. It's when you running up silenced behind a marine, he turns, smoothly guns you down, and leaves that REALLY sucks.
Stupid Thing Four: Phase gates. This got through 3 months of playtesting HOW? And *NOW* it's being declared an exploit? How the hell did you miss this? 3 months, and the players found it out in a week. How are you going to handle it? Telefrag marines? PLEASE telefrag marines. PLEASE OH PLEASE.
Stupid Thing Five: Acid Rockets. Windows. Nuff said. Another thing leftover from 1.04 that was never fixed.
Stupid Thing Six: CC chair spam. More trash from 1.04 that someone forgot to take out.
Stupid Thing Seven: Marines building through walls. *Cough* Ns_Lost.
Stupid Thing Eight: Bite, swipe. One's 50 res and only does 5 more damage for the tradeoff of more stamina drain? C'mon, this is *50 res*. I don't want a Ferarri with a Volkswagen engine in it.
Stupid Thing Nine: Marines can hop like springs. One or two 'dodges' I'm fine with. But a marine that you CAN'T EVEN CATCH as a FADE is downright rediculous. Even better is when you 'bite' or 'gore' them and they fly across the room. Yeah. Marines are NOT about mobility, aliens are.
Stupid Thing Ten: Why does Devour seem to have a 'minimum range'?
</span>
That's all I can think of right now.

Re: Fade...I agree that the basic footspeed should be increased. He does seem a bit slow, and although blink is fab, it's a second before you can change to swipe. (Even with hud_fastswitch 1.) Then again, I'm not the world's best fade, so I'm probably not the one to say.
The only one that <b>really</b> irks me is number four (phase gate exploit). It's so frustrating to lose an outpost because a adren/carapaced fade blinks onto the PG and metabolises to counter turret damage. Believe it or not, it has cost me a fair few games. PG networks are the lifeline of the marines. I believe this is getting fixed in the next patch. Thank God.

thing 1 - you gotta be moving slow
thing 2 - they have no wings to NOT flap with..
thing 3 - it works for aliens too last time i checked, sometimes even through walls
thing 4 - when you've got somone else's matter apearing in your own, it'll hurt enough to wish you WERE fragged.
thing 5 - acid rockets + 3 hives == not gunna make ANY difference what they shoot them through
thing 6 - that's a server complaint, you are free to build what buildings you want...
thing 7 - that's a map bug, not a problem with the game
thing 8 - this might be valid, but it's still not a major flaw
thing 9 - lets see what adrenaline can do to you when you've got a fade following you
thing 10 - last i knew, your mouth can't eat the cookies off the plate that's across the room....
thanks... but yea

I don't have much problem with the fade footspeed. I guess, yeah, the hopping marines would be easier to catch. But marine hopping should be... for mobility, not combat evasion. After they jump, maybe glue them to the ground for half a second as 'punishment'. You ain't gonna see our USMC practicing "If a guy comes up to you with a knife hop around shooting" drills, now, will you?
All of these points have probably been brought up before, I've SEEN some of them, and they've NOT been mentioned by devs for a fix, they've not even been discussed at ALL by a developer, and they NEED it. URGENT.
Err, because invisable and invunerable blinking Fades would be incredibly overpowered. Blink already is devestating in the right hands, I don't see it's current form as "stupid"

It's good, but if you're staring up there you're not looking in front of you. Marines arn't invunerable when using the minimap, but yeah, I'd prefer if it only showed up aliens you can actually see.

Probably not considered a bad enough bug to deserve major attention, seeing as the Hera landing platform was opened up right towards the end of pting. Should be fixed though.

Not addressed because there's nothing to address. Someone wants to spend 30 odd res on some walls? Thats their choice. The devs seem to have considered this a valid tactic, and I tend to agree with them.

Don't whine about Fades. Seriously. They are very VERY nasty. Load up some demos of good clans using them and you'll see what I mean. These guys if anything need a nerf. I've used them and had them used against me. Either way they're a force to be reckoned with.

The pts explained the marines hopping around on once. Basically Half Life can't simulate what you really do if something consisting of mainly teeth dropped next to you and ripped your buddy in half. You'd duck, dodge, roll etc. Half life can make you jump. So you do that. It's not unbalancing. At least marines can't bunnyhop anymore. The throwback from bite and gore is rather strange, I'm not sure why it's in. Can't catch a hopping marine? Use blink. That's what it's there for. Blink in, 2 or 3 swipes, if marine ain't dead blink around. Blink is what the Fade is all about. Use it constantly.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Stupid Thing Ten: Why does Devour seem to have a 'minimum range'?<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I don't have any problems using devour. There's no reason for it to have a boost. Minimum range? I'm more concerned about maximum range; I've been eaten when I'm on walkways above the ground.
One thing I'll put in that really, really shouldn't have slipped through: the double seige point in processing on ns_hera. It's still there. If anything, it got WORSE: the same seige can hit both hives.
Don't call these things "stupid" though. Playtesting a game like NS is a huge responsability and the game was changed at the last minute in many ways that caused imbalance. Pouring scorn on the hard work of others isn't the best way to alert them to possible problems.

As for my trhinking that you'd suggested changing the fade's base speed...dunno why I thought that. But I think it'd be a good idea, supposing that it does cost 50 res.

Old blink wasn't overpowered at all and stuck issues aside, it work infinately better then the current blink. The only complain was that you'd well... get stuck, I guess. Besides, this just looks plain sloppy.

If you're in a group, and you're at the rear, you don't NEED to worry about what's in front of you. Furthermore, the alien one is a lot harder to abuse because... well... aliens DON'T travel in groups so they NEED to see ahead. With the marines I just look in the corner and follow my buddies. Look a red skulk we just walked past. (Turns, shoots in vent, kills skulk).

It's not just the walls: This ENCOURAGES marine turtling and dragging out an endgame. I thought they were going to remove this? Nothing like trying to crack a Tanith turret farm and the commander seals your Onos behind a wall of chairs and kills them.

Well I would, but it drains stamina faster and more unbelievably then a boozehound does to a bottle of Jagermeister. That aside, MARINES ARE NOT ABOUT MOBILITY. They want 'realism'? What **** troop of marines would volunteer to clear out a SPACE STATION of hostile organic lifeforms? Why not just OPEN THE DAMN AIRLOCKS and suck the air out? Realism has NO PLACE, and frankly, like I said: One jump is find. Gets you out of the way. Two is pushing it. Three is just crap.

I call them 'stupid' because:
1) They're PAINFULLY obvious.
2) The developers have neglected to even address most of them, or at least provide an idea of what they're going to do.
3) Most of them are easy to fix and should've changed in 1.04 when they existed.
the thing is, if you just ignore the little things in the game that annoy you instead of letting them take over, you ind you have an awful lot more fun.
