...it just stopped working.
I have been making this current map for awhile now but all of a sudden my VHE has started giving me problems.
The map will compile fine but it won't copy to the directory and run in Half-Life.
I have to compile the map and then copy it manualy to the right place then run NS.
Here is my log:

It says its a windows problem, but I have checked the properties of all my Half-Life folders and none are read only, and I have also checked my options in VHE and all the directories are correct.
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks.

VHE shouldn't be giving you that error. Make sure no folders or files in your Half-Life directory are Read-Only.
If that's true then I'm lazy too. Why use a DOS prompt when a GUI compiler is readily available? (In VHE)

it develops your character and makes you a better, independent person.
As master Splinter says in Turtles 2003, that when given two choices, always choose the harder path.
EDIT: altho, when you're an NS mapper, the harder path always seems to choose YOU
oh they are here i used to get this erorr a lot in hammer i think it is rooted in the file eitehr bing open write protected. if you dont wanna go the nems tools route you can get a program form sysinternals that will let you check what fiels are in use by what porcesses any way if you want the link let me know

Exactly, that is why when I make maps, I load up notepad, choose a fitting BSP name and start writing bsp data straight into notepad. Pffft... GUI frontends and compilers are for wimps.

I enjoy being a wimp. Hey, it gets the job done. I never use BC until the final build of my map.

I really wonder how you enter values like zero or 9 (would be the tabulator char.) in notepad....hmmmm
Back on topic: Nothing new: Access denied = security attributes, read only, opened in another process...
And 'opened' is right in 99% of all cases. .pts is the pointfile so first thing to ask is: Have you loaded the point file in Hammer? Is anything else working on/with the pointfile?
Well, I wasn't being very serious. *grin*
A 9 or a tab could be entered by simply pressing tab
Entering values wouldn't be much of a problem, except for a few of them (which is not supported by this feature, editor limitation, I gather, 0 and 8 (backspace) springs to mind), because you can hold down alt (not alt graphics) and type 0 + ASCII value (0151 would make a nice horizontal line, for example). Alternatively, you can cut and paste most of it from character map.
The Natural Selection forums welcome our new Slashdot memetic overlords!
Anyway, batch files are the better route, because you can construct some weird and wonderful things which do precisely what you want without having to fight around someone else's concept of how it should be done. Plus you can keep mapping while another map is compiling.
I re-booted my PC, opened VHE and loaded the RMF, then compiled it, still got the error, and I knew for a fact that no other program or process was using the file or directory.
So I went into explorer and checked the read only settings of my Half-Life directory. The read-only box can have either nothing (all files and folders are NOT read only), a square (some of the files or folders ARE read only), or a tick (all of the files and folders are read only).
So I changed all the folders and files in my half-life directory to NOT read only and clicked ok, (it asks you if you want to apply that to all subfolders and files, I clicked yes.)
Then I dig deeper to my NS folder and chack that, it also has a square for read only, even though I just supposadly changed it to not read only, so i change it again. The I check it again and its back to a square!
So basically this is something to do with my windos XP being messed up I guess, changing the read only settings of my NS folder doesnt do anything... sigh.
Anyways, this is a shot of my current MS, any comments?
Is it too small or too blue?
(The ribbed wall is to stop leaks, they will be doorways, I made them small so multiple onos cant attack together, but they are just wide enough for one at a time.)
