Rspeeds

<div class="IPBDescription">How are they?</div>How are the rspeeds in your maps, my computer isn't exactly top of the line, in fact I wouldn't even classify it as middle of the line.  I am asking because if they are kind of high I shall go buy myself a new video card... all for NS.

you can find the maximum R_speed for NS maps in the mapping guidelines.
i tought it was 750 but i'm not sure.

    From the <a href="http://www.natural-selection.org/MappingGuidelines.htm" target="_blank">Official NS Mapping Guidelines</a>:
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td><b>Quote</b> </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"><!--QuoteEBegin-->r_speeds (w-polys) in Natural Selection maps should be below 700 at all times. In heavy traffic areas and areas where heavy combat is expected, the r_speeds should not stray above 600 at any point, and they should not average more than 500. Commander mode can have a bit lower performance than on the ground, and must never exceed r_speeds of 1000, with the average being closer to 700.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Flayra realizes that a large number of gamers - especially HL gamers - are playing on older systems, and does what he can to accomodate them.  (:

yea hdon't worry about r_speeds, it seems some official TFC maps have higher r_speeds

My r_speeds are higher on the ground then in commander mode.  I get about 600 wpolys on ground and 100-150 wpolys in commander mode.  Its my epolys I'm worried about.  I get 2000 in my "pipe room" and about 300 everywhere else.  I forget what I get in commander mode.  (I am not making an offical map.  Its just a "practice" map, if you will, for my clan.)

I don't think e-polys are that much to worry about, I got 1000 on average and most HL SP maps I looked at had quite high numbers too, around 4000 even, I think.
On of my older maps even had e-polys around 20000 (yes, that is possible), but when I ran software mode some entities wouldn't get drawn. I don't think e-polys get on the performance that much.
But its always good to keep all poly levels low and for NS I would advise you to keep the e-polys low because, while playing, all the models (buildings, players, etc) add to them as well.

No need to worry about r-speeds.  The official mappers have been nothing but completly careful when it comes to the w-poly count.  And each of the models have been kept as low poly as possible, allowing the skin to convey most of the detail.

I myself am on the slightly lower end of the graphics card spectrum (a little less than middle ground), and I can still get 30+ fps in 1024x768, at all times (minus the occasional particle system flurry), no problems.  And hell, 30 is enough for me.
