    it doesn't work on words with less than 4 letters, so but, and, or, if, it his, her, him, she, he, hi, bye, buy, cry, eye, die, my, hey, day, bay, lay, say, nay, aye, sin, in, din, bin, gin, cat, hat, sat, at, bat, rat, dad, sad, fad, had, rad, add, lad, ram, bam, ham, sam, dam, Fam, Nem, lan, dan, ann, ran, fan, can, ban (not me), an, on, don, ron, sun, son, fun, hun, and so on : )

    actually, to bee geeky, it does work for three letter words.

    lets use "but"
    "but"

    remove outer letters
    "u"

    scramble
    "u"

    add outer letters
    "but"

    still legible, but not much randomness
    "ubt" seems to work though as an exception, <b>jefe</b>
