As far as I know the games/mods are now just little gcf files. So how are custom models going to be added? Anyone know anything about this? Cause I doubt the'd get rid of custom models, that's what consistancy is for.

Actually, one of Steam's goals was to eliminate custom files, and force uniformity, so people couldn't cheat like that. What it really adds up to, though, is that now it just ****ing sux to play Half-Life...back to PlanetSide for me...:/

with mods installed via Steam (CS, DoD), you have to create their folders and then add the roots, Steam will use the custom content and not the "default" content
Example, a custom GIGN model for CS:
we would go into SteamApps, if we don't see a folder with our steam account (email) we proceed to create it (example@hotmail.com) inside of it, we create Counter-Strike, and then cstrike, then models, then player, then gign and then we put our custom model there, CS will load that model (it's the same for everything, even for installing custom maps, they took the FAQ down on steam's site, but it'll be back, it was explained very well there). Voilà!
And, with mods like NS, it's like we always did...

I still have my original copies, buhahah. So I can still customized and I'm using ASE. Hopefully it will work after a week lol.

You can't use custom models for cs because they are in a CGF file which needs to be hacked to be opened, if NS ever is released onto steam there is a chance that the models folder along with sprites and sounds could be all together in a CGF file. In other words, you neeed someone to hack it to get the models out.
Steam has ruined me. I got the new version with HL and CS Caches already in it. But can I play? NO!!!! I even stuck TS into the Half Life Folder in the SteamApps folder. No Dice. it shows up, but I can't play it.
Well, what I said was on the Official FAQ, but it seems like they are updating it now :\
They'll say how to add custom content anyways, so... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Maybe it depends if the server is running consistancy checks, and if so it puts the stuff back to norm?
Its because everything runs off of external stuff.
Thats why you can run half-life at your friends house just as long as he has steam, without him having to download the game AT ALL. PERIOD.
