You WILL go to heaven.......
I was replying in the "A stark realisation" thread, when I remembered something I found out a while ago that I thought I should share.
A revelation about Christianity I found on the good old internet several years back (while looking for a walkthrough for "SiN", as it happens), showed me that Christians really don't pay much attention:
The one recurring thing that Christians are told is "Jesus died for our sins". But do we really know what this means?
It means Jesus died on the cross as punishment *edit* maybe punishment isn't the best word here *edit* for all of mankind's sins
So surely this means we can do what we want, right? Jesus died for all sins, right?
This guy on the internet had posed this question to a priest, and his reply was:
"Well, I suppose if you put it that way..... yes. Jesus loves you that much."
So the underlying principle of Christianity is that we should go to church out of respect for God and Jesus, not out of fear of punishment.
But how many christians (more specifically Catholics) know this? Not many. Some of them still scare their children into going to church by threats of "If you don't go to church every Sunday you'll go to hell!"
This is one of the many reasons I am officially a Jedi. Yes, I wrote Jedi on the census form.....

But you're right, wo don't have to go to church, or do any sort of good works to get us into heaven. Isaiah 64 even states that all our good works are like "filthy rags" before God's greatness. Want to guess what filthy rags means in the ancient Hebrew?
No. He died to make salvation possible. You remain culpable for your personal sins. They will be forgiven if you persevere in faith, but blanket forgiveness for every crime imaginable would be extremely unjust.

Have you ever asked yourself what religion Yoda had?
"Luminous beings are we... not this crude matter..."
In essense, she said that Jesus "Wiped the slate clean" in the Sins department.
Many of their teachings on religious matter I find to be - "weird and wonderful" to put it nicely.
Find someone who is serious about religion, maybe read a book of Christian apologetics, talk to someone who really knows what they are on about.
And I feel that that disqualifies nearly every R.E. teacher I have ever met.
And if you ever feel like there is something really obvious that the Christians have obviously missed, think again. Little else has had the intense scrutiny the Christian religion and its text has. I believe an entire book was written about a comma in John 3:16 - I find it highly doubtful that you can discover something we dont already know. Or even put a new spin on it. Dont let that discourage you from trying, but have a quick look to see that you particular point hasnt been answered elsewhere.
"I don't believe it!"
"That is why you fail."
