"Plant Kreton 2"
The kreton system. Filled with mostly desert like planets and a sun nearly double teh age of earths sun. The planets are rich in resoruces. One planet in this system was on the verge of being colonized but during the war the tsa decided to dump the colony and begin resouce collecting. Unfortuneatly a heavy battle ship enter orbit of Kreton2.
They sent down a small team and a group of builders. When they arrived they began work on a small mining camp. A squad of soldiers went off to recon and found teh old command-hut (where the commaner will be during the game)
Nothing seemed wrong until all hell broke loose. The battle ships second team went down an hour later and now thw battleship is in orbit a complete silence. Your orders are to head to the planet and exterminate any infestations you find.

Post a complete layout (if you have one) I'm really curious where you gonna put the hives s:)
The area to the left (the big room lit by green) is the hive. Im gonna add so beams and some more rocks. But thats the basic theme. Ps. I really dont care if it looks like hl. I mean its A CAVE ns doesnt have any new cave textures.
If it did i would use em! <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo--> ill be back in an hour or two with more pics.
try to use the "triangle method" and make it look like rocks <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->
And you shoul use different rock textures. They doesn't fit the ns-style <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

use the textures that harry posted they are 10 times better than hl ones......
The whole point of the mapping forum is to give people feedback on their maps and what they could do to improve it..not to outright say...'You should map for another mod that is more simpler'.... :S
The map may look a little flat at the moment just give a few weeks of improvements.
Now for the critisism....Try and put a few hollowed out caves that were created by the aliens to give em more access to all the areas....ever see the film congo with those freakish apes....they live in small holes in the cave walls....Should try and make that (dont think it will be that hard tho)
Like most of the rest have said..put a few light fixtures in there brighten up the place then when u get to making the Hive bits...make it a little darker..put a few pipes in there some spilling out some form of machine fluid instead of having it there....some piles of rocks and maybe a railway system with carts of mining ore in em some spilled and crap like that.....

I mean like a resourse hunt. As fars the base go im gonna add to more. Im also trying to keep some rooms emptish so i can allow lots of things to be created (portals,turrets,etcetc)
Oh and no this isnt my first "stab" I have two realesed maps

its just water. Not lack of light. I dont get why the water is so dark i did choose a nice sludge color water. Some of those pics show those two rooms. so you can see its not really dark in there. Im still working on realistic rocks. But... im think of just make spikes. and putting some along the floor (not so pointy more like hills) to give it a nice effect. Remember I do have to keep the r_speeds down

Those look like caves simply becuase of the archictexture. If you make your stalagmites and stalactites big enough so that you notice them, but not big enough that you have to walk around them, the you should be set.
To pull off a great looking cave map for NS, your skill would be have to be very very high.
