God: Comedian?

<div class="IPBDescription">God's a funny guy...or is he?</div> Take a look at this quote I pulled from the Bible:

He who sits in the heavens shall laugh.
--Psalm 2:4

God a Comedian? Wow.

my version had God mocking people too...ahh i suppose the big guy needs a sense of humour- he doesnt have much else to do with his time apart from watch us all stumbling around like little hamsters doing silly things....

If God is a comedian , that's a really unskilled one. If Life is a joke , then it's rather gross... at best we have irony , at worst the existence feels ridiculous and pathetic.

Exemple : yesterday night I was coming back to home from a communist meeting , way too late (1-2 AM) and the last metro was gone. Night buses were extremely late so we were freezing in the night , exhausted and desesperate. We finally caught one bus , but we had to walk for long to the next station to wait for another one , ect...

Paris is never sleeping , so we were happy to at least have some light and animation on a change , after waiting for a whole hour in a frozen suburb.
Then some black guy sneaks in and hands us little advert-like papers , with the title "Light is Life" or something. It was christian propaganda. Riiight... so we'd have sad , bitter young folks seeing the light in the night ?
I got at first disgusted that an "official" church's proselytism methods weren't any better than the scientology sect , and felt pity for theses poor naive souls. What are the odds ?... Trying to convert the most determined and optimistic communists that way was pretty foolish. Only kids are afraid of the dark...

If God is a comedian, then he must get boring very quickly.

Well... there's the case of the talking donkey.

<b>Thou shalt be amused by face by thee humour that I devise, lest ye be cast unto eternal damnation!</b>

    Amen.

I have an idea! Let's play the OUT OF CONTEXT GAME!

    Or let's not. Let's see the entire <a href='http://www.cforc.com/kjv/Psalms/2.html' target='_blank'>Psalm 2</a> now, shall we?

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision.
Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

What is God laughing at here? Is he laughing at us "all stumbling around like little hamsters doing silly things"? Is he a comedian? No. He's laughing at the fools who think they can plot against him. It's as if you got to overhear some ants on the ground conspiring to do you in. You'd laugh too! Doesn't mean you're a comedian, or that you have nothing better to do...

I think life is funny, dark/bleak comedy. It's better to laugh than to give up hope.

Just because there isn't anything to support God having a sense of humor in The Bible doesn't mean this topic has to die.

In the great words of that grasshopper from "A Bugs Life":

"There's more of them than there is of us."

Same goes for us and God.

But on a note that is actually on topic, God would have to be a funny guy, 'cos if he made us, he gave us a sense of humour. So he made me, and my sense of humour is.... wow, really good.

    I am funny.

Since we were all created in God's image a good way to reflect upon God is to reflect upon ourselves. Since we are passionate, emotional, capable of being incredibly spitful and at the same time incredibly empathatic, thoughtful, forgetful, funny, sarcastic, gloomy, cheerful, etc. there's a good chance these attributes exist in God as well. There is no perfect human and in my opinion there is no perfect God.

ofcourse God has a sense of humor. if he didnt have one, where did comedy come from? Humans are the only species known to laugh, so it didnt evolve

as for "there's more of them than there are of us", there is more of God than there are of us

Excuse me ? Other species , such as apes , have similar behaviors. Baboon and the like have a primitive form of laugh in the submission mimic meaning lessened agressivity , but great apes like the Chimpanzee can sometimes understand and even make jokes. They know how to play with concepts , and lie to friendly people , jokingly. Fact : a Chimpanzee using some sort of sign language to communicate with ethologists was shown a white towel , and asked which color it was. The Chimpanzee repeatedly answered it was red. After a while , he took the towel and showed a tiny , red fiber on the side of the towel and showed his teeth in a playing mimic : if that's not humor then what can it be ?

Well at any rate, I think the church is evil and the bible is fake. How can we prove all of that sruff in the bible really happened?

fine. you think whatever you want to think. I think you are wrong. How can we prove that all of that "stuff" in the bible <i>didn't</i> happen. There are more references to Jesus Christ (not just in the bible, there is at least one other non-religious document mentioning him) that there are to Julius Ceasar, yet i dont see you questioning his existance.

(Stakhanov, my bad, but humans didn't evolve from apes)
