New Map Idea

<div class="IPBDescription">Its nice outdoors</div> Now, we know that all of the maps up till now have been in confined spaces where <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo--> hide & but your head off in a instance.

But what if we had an outdoor map. Everything is out doors, except for the Marine Start (which can be in a bunker, don't worry, there r plenty of ways to get in via Vents <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> ) & the hives (which would be in under ground caves or on the side of hills) some res towers can be outside or can be in little confined caves <i>i.e an example is like Power Sub Junction 03 on ns_nothing, I think.</i> Its jus something like this that can make the game more interesting, instead of having the same confined maps.

Well, thats what I think <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    This isn't really a new idea, it has come up several times before now. There are several reasons that making a successful outdoor map will be difficult, such as the HL engine's trouble with wide, open spaces, lerks and jetpackers having more or less free reign, marines having an advantage due to their superior ranged weapons, and difficulty in designating certain routes between places.

    Skulks would have a major disadvantage over large areas like that as well. The resulting map would take ages to balance out and give you more of a headache than any mapper needs. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I always thought a cool idea would be some sort of underground complex where the aliens have dug caves and tunnels from their hives to the complex. The hives would also be located under the planet's surface for the heat. I can imagine it would be fun to map holes that burst out of the complex walls and stalactites, and stone pillars etc. I might make out a plan and post it.

    Ok from what I have seen:
    How do you get an outdoor map within the limits of the HL engine and still remain balanced?
    You make the map appear to be outdoors when in reality the majority of it is not; IE caves/caverns/canyons.

    Yes, yes, there r certain limits to the HL engine I admit that, but there r limits that can be broken.

    & for the outdoor map, it doesn't have to be totally barren, take the HL Map, GasWorks, on the top level, all of the obsticals that can be made for both marine & alien <span style='color:red'><i>but of course <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo--> can reach anywhere relly <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> </i></span> Pluse, the basic design of the map below can be incorporated into the NS map too, which would make it fun, trust me on that <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
