Why Is Ns So Laggy (video, Not Network).

In CS I can play at 100fps in OpenGL with 8x ansino filtering at all times; even with smoke bombs.
For some reason, I can't play NS at over 60fps in OpenGL with 8x ansino. In heavy action the game sometimes bogs down to like 30fps.

Why is NS so slow compared to CS? Is there a way to tweak it so it doesn't get as laggy?

AthlonXP 1700+
GeForce FX5200
1GB ram
Windows XP

Yes. There is a tweak. It's called "don't use 8x aniso and you'll be fine".

    [edit]

    Oh, and "don't buy 5200's".

Why do you complain about 60 fps? I run on average 20-30 fps and I see no visible slowdown.

Why do you think NS would be slower? Does CS have buildings? Does CS have a multitude of extremely detailed objects on screen at once?

Ya... Lets put this in perspective. On average, most good NS maps have more detail in the ready room alone than most CS maps have all together.
Also, NS maps have a large sum more Entites than CS maps, and thats even before building anything.
CS can be played on frikken Celerons clocked at 600mhz if you tweek it enough, a 100 fps in CS will not equal 100 fps in NS.

On a more helpful note, if you're capping out at 60, and occasionally dropping to 30 in large jumps, chances are you have vsync enabled and are suffering from XP's incorrectly forced refresh rates. Do a search for 'refresh lock' and you'll probably find information that will help you.

    Also, don't use 8x aniso....

Play at a rock solid 100fps for a week, and then try and tell me your 20-30fps looks fine.

phased to tech support, this is not a general discussion type of item

your eyeballs have a refresh rate of about 80Hz, so that's the framerate you should shoot for.

Anything over 30 is playable, but is much more likely to give you a headache or throw off your aim a bit.

I dont think it's fact that NS runs at 60 fps which is the problem. But rather it goes from 100 fps (looking at wall), to 60 fps (walking around), down to 30 fps (marine base) and constantly toggle in combat.
