ok, you gota give us more info.
But first up, for now you don't wana play NS with Steam (to many bugs, including the fact that the interface is borked, and b/c you are a nub you need that interface to be clear). These bugs will suposedly be fixed soon (we hope)
for now, just set it up on plain old vanila HL (or CSretail if you want)
as a note DoD retail can bite me, it dosn't work with NS <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> (Valves fault)

Id try this guide first its quite good thier are also some threads in the tech forum about steam and NS further down the pages.
