<div class="IPBDescription"> - anyone else?</div> hey, i just started doing mods to my computer... and i wanna brag about it...

here's my first real one that i did without a tutorial...

in fact, this was such a pain in the butt to figure out how to do it.. i wrote one for it. it might be up at a mod tutorial site i go to, but i don't know... the site is twistedmods.com.... if your interested.

but what did i do?

i added a fan to my ghetto ATI radeon 7200...
After a game of NS, my video card would be hot to the touch, now it's icy cool...

here's a before and after image...

    MOD = <b>Mod</b>ification

    Technically, that fan <b>is</b> a modification.

    More coming.

    Also, this is a fan.
    <img src='http://www.extremealterations.com/images/iceberq4_prosmall.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

    Yours does the job though. And what's wrong with touching it if you're earthed and the case is powered down but plugged in?

    nublet, i know those mods already... those are professional jobs, not do-it at home mods...

    90% of those did not include using a "dremmel"

    All in that first post can be seen in this page of WIRED magizine... located <a href='http://wired.com/wired/archive/11.10/makeover.html' target='_blank'>Here</a>

    That first pic looks good.

    But IMHO, PCs aren't cars, why dress them up?

    They only stay in your room. I think people have to set their priorities straight.

    Performance is what counts <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I have a plain looking computer (from the outside) but it kicks a$$ <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I think less and less of these are mods, but still...

    <img src='http://store4.yimg.com/I/xoxide_1758_3528111.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

    And this page is full of them to buy:
    <a href='http://www.directron.com/premodded.html' target='_blank'>http://www.directron.com/premodded.html</a>

    I was going to give a link to a page with REAL mods. I just can't find it.
    The main part was a madman who'd put an office-fan on the front of his case. It was HUGE. THink of the noise! I'll post it when I find it.

    i've got time... which is why i'm modifying this useless junk and adapting it into my new case...

    sorry, but adding a fan, when it's got the mount for it... isn't a mod.

    cutting a window, isn't a mod...

    learning how to break the rules, make heads turn, and actually get the attention of a women....

    is a mod to be proud of.

    Certainly a nice addition to your card. I plan on doing the same thing with mine when I build my new rig in a month or two. I just recently bought my case which I'm about to start modding (custom shiny paintjob, custom window - I'm thinking maybe using the TSA logo for a window?, custom fan holes, LEDs in strange places, etc.)
  • GazaarGazaar Join Date: 2002-03-31 Member: 366Banned
    Actually most chicks would laugh at you for WASTING your money on useless casemods. Casemods that don't serve a purpose other than add to performance like better cooling, are lame and a waste of money. "olo wow it's pretty but i could've taken these girls that now laugh at me out to dinner."

    Pair of 80-mm sidepanel fan holes. Got the ~80mm circular hole drill bit from Home Depot, then used a sanding drill bit to smooth out the edges. The pair of 80mm fans gets power from one cable because I salvaged them from the 350-watt power supply this system blew out. This also means that the plug for them is a 2-pin female instead of a 3-pin female, so I jury rigged it through a modded y-splitter. It's oriented so that opening the sidepanel automatically unplugs the pair -- I'm still trying to perfect the system so that closing the sidepanel will automatically plug them in as well.

    Other than that, pretty minor:

    2 stealth modded optical drives

    Removed thick grill in forward and aft fan holes. You know how when you first get a case with a place for a fan, there's so much metal that the holes don't let the full airflow through? Yeah, got rid of that and put my own fan grills.

    I got this case from the dumpster of a dying dot-com company, so after cleaning the coffee stains, I increased the size of all the intake holes in the front bezel and made a couple dozen new ones for good measure. You know those "stylish" front bezels with a few uselessly-small holes so thin you can barely fit a .7mm pencil lead in? I took a drill bit to all of those, I think it was abouth 3/16 inch.

    ahh, yes Marik, thats real modding, those fancy images arent.

    i took my old beige midtower, gave it a nice black finish with a few coats of clear acryllic spray to keep it shiny, the accents on the front panel are done up in red, including the drive bay covers, one of them has a stealth cdrw, making it look pretty darn slick.

    punched a 120mm intake in the lid and blowhole on the side panel, the lid fan is a clear red quad LED, which manages to light up the whole box, and the side panel has my radiator tied to the fan with zipties, and a small makeshift watercooled cpu. it keeps my athlon at normal temperatures very quietly, no stock buzzing heatsinks for me.

    now my tiny W/C system is not very efifcient, it doesnt make the processor super cold, and the water heats up way above room temperature, if i could keep the water cold then i could overclock this thing quite a bit. so heres my next project: <a href='http://eyecannon.com/1(2).jpg' target='_blank'>http://eyecannon.com/1(2).jpg</a>

    hot water in the top, showers down past the fan and evaporation causes it to get a few C below ambient temperatures, plus a nice background soothing waterfall noise <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    also gonna be putting a fan on the backside of my geforce3ti, it gets to about 115 F if i O/C it a few percent and run NS for an hour.

    some reason, a few girls i had over yesterday couldn't get enough of the UV lights i've got in my machine... nothing better than a bunch of girls, you, and UV lights sitting in the dark... you've got to love white underware.

    A guy who enjoys female underwear is a pervert? Damn, lock me up. ^^

    Perhaps I'll do some fun stuff to my new computer, once I've built it (hoping to put it together in the next few months). I'll be back, asking for advice. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Why? Many "chicks" don't laugh at guys spending $10,000+ to pointlessly trick out their honda. In fact, they run after them at top speed, tripping others in the process. It helps if your bald and your name is Vin Diesel as well.... <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Then I will sell the case to break even because I'm broke now....

    I wonder if I can modify a case with a Fusor Reactor inside. ooo pretty.... play natural selection and get a healthy dose of neutrons and x-rays in the process! My legs will be tan at least.......

    one time my firends played a trick on my computer.
    they had gone in and changed all my sounds to porno sounds.
    When I maximized things or opened a program I would hear
    "ohhh yea, oh yeah, ohh FU... YEA, FU.. me ohh yeah"
    Well after they had a really good laugh at me one of my buddies took my friends HDD for his new tripped out case and changed everything around so the default sounds were gone and when my mate started up his sexy new computer for the first time he got all kinds of hot PORNO sounds.

    It wouldn't have been so bad but his parents were in the room checking out his new case and equipment!

    If case modding picks up chicks, that would imply that there would be chicks to pick up. Or rather, that there would be chicks within my domain. I know not which statment is more unrealistic.
