My Steam Half-lfie Will Not Initlaize Other Games!

I got the half-life steam.
I sighned up and stuff, got it working, GREAT!
or not....i read the part about getting half-life initlized for other games. Well, it said ride around in the tram for a little in the beggining of the game. I went as far as to get my HEV suit, but when i exit the game, all of the other mods are still greyed out!
I guess i can play em...i imported all of my mods to steam. So i click on DOD and it says it has to Downlaod it!
WHAT! I have it!
Help!
