When i saw the Changelog i was like WOW, Thats neat.
When i played the game it sucked, Theres about 5 dots behind the enemy and it dont show WHERE hes going.
One time there was 1 light marine he was ahead of a huge HA Train, i saw the dots and went backwards! and ran into the HA train instead of the 1 light <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->
This could be fixed by adding arrows of the direction the marines are going and make the arrows last for a longer time.
I think pheromones would be a much more usefull upgrade if scent of fear wasn't changed. But since scent of fear is basically a wall-hack now, pheromones don't make much sense. If unwounded marines didn't show up on scent of fear, pheromones would be much better.
But tbh, when i read the changelog and heard about pheromones being added to the upgrades, i was quite excited...but what i visualized as pheromones was much different than the actual gameplay look. I was disappointed.
What i think it should look like is instead of puffs of smoke, which only hover in the air and don't give any sense of direction, i was thinking of making it look something like a small "trail" where a small river (so to speak) of color would follow marines on the ground and tend to "flow" in the direction that they were moving. Each level up would make the trail a little longer...I would be much more inclined to use pheromones if it showed directions marines were moving without having to actually see where they are in order to get my team to group up and attack a specific location. Just my 2 cents.

That way its not as simple as an arrow and it still tells you where to go.

I often us pheromones because it makes the marines look like they are farting...nothing funnier then to see the guy that just pwned you let one ripp <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

i used to use pheromones when i used to onos before i found the amazing SoF. with pheromones u could track the marines, SoF is better but if u want a good idea of where those marines are then its better then nothing

Errrrm, tbh I don't use pheromones an awful lot, since I know the maps well and can tell where the little blips are moving anyway.
Pheromones are sort of handier for newer players, not familiar with the maps, and wanting to learn routes/paths.
EDIT - should also point out its sometimes handy for seeing if marines have been sniffing through the vents.
On the whole though, I totally agree that its not exactly the most useful upgrade.
