<div class="IPBDescription">yup</div> By this I mean, post a list of bands you enjoy that most people don't know of because they aren't very popular. Give them a time to shine, and share your grand taste in music with other people! And if you want, leave a few of their better songs. Brag about how underground you are, come on. And also write something about them(good idea moultano)
Engine Down: Second of February, Demure, Taken in, Pantomine
Bright Eyes: Bowl of Oranges, The Calendar Hung itself, A Perfect Sonnet, The City has Sex with itself
Desaperecidos: Manana, $$$, (whatever track 1 and 5 are)
Modest Mouse: Tiny Cities Made of Ashes, This is a L7
Flogging Molly: Laura, Drunken Lullabies
Pennywise: Society, f*** Authority, Perfect People
Guitar Wolf: Jet Generation
Engine Down: Basically, an alternative band that sounds a lot like AFI. They have some really trippy guitar riffs, and clever lyrics.
Bright Eyes: This band has the greatest lyrics ever. No one can beat them. They flow good with the music, and can be really touching. Some of the songs are really happy(like Bowl of Oranges), and some are sad (Going for the Gold). The guy who does the writing and stuff also happens to be bipolar, so maybe that means it's automatically good. I strongly recommend watching the video for Bowl of Oranges, as it's just really creative and artistic.
Desaperecidos: A punkish, alternative band with the singer of Bright Eyes. These songs are mainly just happy, and very catchy. Their CD is probably the best one I own.
Modest Mouse: A band my friend(a big Weezer fan) recommended to me. They just have cool and original songs.
Flogging Molly: An Irish(or Scottish, can't remember) punk band. They got bagpipes! And over there, they actually have stuff to complain about so the lyrics aren't boring like most punk is.
Pennywise: An old punk band, who sings mainly about society and such.
Guitar Wolf: A Japanese rock band recommended by Domo-Kun. They're so loud, and have poor audio quality, but they're good enough to make me look past it.

Comments
(my roommate likes them, and while I can appreciate some of their songs, I hear them way too much)
This thread is going to be in danger of being too spammy, so in order to avoid being locked, we need to write something about the bands that we are listing.
My list:
<b>Vienna Teng</b> -> Some of the most beautiful solo piano vocal stuff I have ever heard. It's really incredible. A few of her songs are available for download for free on her site <a href='http://www.viennateng.com/high/frontpage/index.php' target='_blank'>http://www.viennateng.com/high/frontpage/index.php</a>
<b>nickel creek</b> -> great pop folk celtic bluegrass hybrid stuff labeled "newgrass." All of their songs are acoustic and vary wildly stylistically between tracks. The trio of mandolin guitar violin includes some of the best acoustic musicians in the world. <a href='http://www.nickelcreek.com/' target='_blank'>http://www.nickelcreek.com/</a>
Doubt anybody knows of this band, but I seriously suggest you people check them out
Comes with the Fall---- Unbreakable, So Cruel, Waiting out the Breakdown. Every song on their one album (The year is one) is amazing, I can't wait for their next production.
Taproot - kick trash rock/metal band
Nappy Roots - nice "country" rap
Brave Saint Saturn - nice pop rock alternative
Skillet - nice popish rock
Zwan - smashing pumpkins... again
Safri Duo - instrumental techno... (two guys on bongos == good)
The Revolution Smile - Rock group.. opened for Taproot
Gravity Kills - NiN's childspawn
Baz Lurhman - "the sunscreen song"... you konw, the one about graduating?
That's probably because I live in a town where <b>everyone</b> listens to the same thing, and whenever I mention one of these bands, they respond in shock, and confusion.
Oh yeah. Forgot about them. They are pretty good. Crazy atmospheric instrumental stuff. They've got tons of members, one of which plays his guitar with a bow. It's all hella depressing.
Also, The Notwist are really good too. They are from Germany I believe. They sing in english though. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
( ) doesn't even have words. (he sings but it isn't words) Pretty good stuff (although it puts me to sleep). Fairly pretentious post rock. A lot of it reminds me of Radiohead's quieter stuff. Ny Batteri rocks.

You must be one of those people who are easily swayed by music. How do you live your life? Do dead kittens make you cry?
-Sisters of Mercy
-The Smiths
-ACDC
Odd mix yes, but it holds its ground. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Thanks for the vote of confidence <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> . I dunno why <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo--> , but songs about urban decay and the slow deterioration of the country don't strike me as cheerful.

Woo! I know I'm not the only one on the forums that listens to them. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
I have a long long long list of artists to recommend, but it would take me a while to type them all, so I'll just name a few that I've been listening to more than usual recently.
-The Cure
-Apoptygma Berzerk
-VNV Nation
-MDFMK
-KMFDM
-Switchblade Symphony
-Bella Morte
-The Cr?xshadows
-Chaos Opera
-Voltaire

WOO!!!! go good music!
<b><a href='http://www.tarmvred.net' target='_blank'>Tarmvred</a></b> - A swedish rhythmic noise artist with a fascination towards 8-bit sounds and ground-shakingly massive beat walls. In 2001 he released a full-lenght album on <a href='http://www.adnoiseam.net' target='_blank'>Ad Noiseam</a>, titled Subfusc (sample mp3s available <a href='http://www.adnoiseam.net/label/catalog/4/index.htm' target='_blank'>here</a>). Subfusc is simply a masterpiece. Originally one long track, divided on the cd into 6 parts, Subfusc simply grabs the listener, floors him and keeps pounding on him for the next hour. There isn't another experience like it. On october 3rd, Tarmvred will release a new EP, titled Viva 6581 (sound samples available <a href='http://www.adnoiseam.net/label/catalog/32/index.htm' target='_blank'>here</a>). Viva 6581 is made in collaboration with another swedish artist, Digidroid, and from listening to the samples it seems that the EP is a combination of Tarmvred's broken, beautiful beat textures and Digidroid's extra fluffy Commodore 64 melodies. Simply brilliant stuff. Bow down to your new robot masters!
Next i'd like to come to the Sisters Of Mercy. First of all, i won't talk about how much i hate this group, and the entire "trad-goth" genre of music. But the Sisters of Mercy are known and liked by all people that would <i>want</i> to know about them. They're a goth band, the goth's know about them, people outside of the goth scene would be very unlikely to like them at all.
I could spout off a list of names of bands that nobody's ever heard of, but they're specialist bands. I could list countless underground death metal bands, but if you don't like death metal, there's no point. Similarily, i could list obscure or underground bands for most genres (i'm a big fan of indepentant music and obscure music) but the fact is, most of you are gonna hate them, they're pretty niche stuff, and, to be honest, this isn't about making people hear new bands, this is about bragging about how "anti-mainstream" you are.
Although, to kinda contradict my above statement, i just downloaded the samples from Tarmvred's new album, and wow, great stuff, i will definately be looking out for that one.
So okay, on with the obligatory list that people will most likely only skim over so they can reply "OMGZ!!11 D3V1L D0Ll!!11 I H34rdZ d3M!!11".
<li><b>DeathBoy</b>:
Well well well, what can i say about DeathBoy. The only reason i've heard of them is because they're a friend's band, i know most of the members, and so on, but don't let that bias my opinion. At first DeathBoy was a solo project by a spikey, red-haired lout called DeathBoy, it was quite good, but nothing special, EBM with traces of breakbeats and trance liberally smattered about.
Then there came a revolution. DeathBoy hired a guitarist, synth, bass, and a drummer and turned from the EBM he once created into making what has been dubbed by some reviews as "Glum n' Bass". They now play stompy, guitar-based industrial with breakbeats thrown in for good measure, and they do it well. Now signed to <a href='http://www.wasp-factory.com/' target='_blank'>Wasp Factory</a> they've been touring and getting better and the fanbase has been expanding greatly. They've just recently got back from a tour in Canada, which isn't too bad for a little London goth / industrial band. You can see their official website over at <a href='http://www.deathboy.co.uk/' target='_blank'>deathboy.co.uk</a>.
<li><b>Lab 4</b>:
Moving away from the "up-and-coming-ness" of DeathBoy, and onto something a little grander. Lab 4. I know, some of you may be thinking that Lab 4 aren't exactly obscure or anything, but due to the surprising popularity of dance music, it's surprising that not so many people know of Lab 4. Properly formed back in '94 or so. Dispite playing very "commercial" sounding music (hell, it's dance music) they seem to have a massive "alternative" fanbase, but mostly cybergoths, ravers and the like. Their sound is a perfectly performed style of hard dance. I can't flaw it in anyway and it's far better than most dance acts purely for the time they've spent perfecting each note and each bassline.
A lot of their material is quite dark, almost industrial in places, but the greatest example of this would be the closing track "Pure Kaos" on the 2002 double-album "Virus". It's a mix of pounding dark hard house beats mixed with eclectic synth overtones. It's one of the few tracks that just makes me feel so glad to be alive and dancing because it's just so damned good. Anyway, for any fans of hard house or hard dance music of any way, give them a look, they're exceptionally good at what they do and deserve more credit. Oh, and you can take a peak at <a href='http://www.lab4.com/' target='_blank'>lab4.com</a> for samples and more info.
And that's all i'll say, if you search back to similar threads like this one, you'll find my usual list of Devil Doll, Bal-Sagoth, and so on.

Good call.
We should all listen to the song Dramamine more =D
However currently I've recently been listening to a lot of Electronica
Here's a small selection of a few of my current favs:
<ul>
<li>µ-ziq
<li>Jega
<li>Ovuca
<li>Automated Reason
<li>Squarepusher
<li>Nautilis
<li>Yez
</ul>
I highly recommened Jega - Pitbull
Much awesomness
However their major claim to fame is that they did the music (Or more accurately the music was taken from their debut album) on the superb N64 arcade racer Top Gear Overdrive.
And thats really all I can suggest.
Although <a href='http://www.grindstone.com' target='_blank'>Grindstones Webpage</a> has a few samples and tracks as well as Demo MP3s if you really are interested.
I would recommend Mir, Come Alive and Threshold personally!
My Superhero
Snail Ramp
Potshot
Capdown
Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra
Cmon you guys know you love the trombones.
Anyways, if you're into metal, check out the following:
<b>Hopesfall
From autumn to Ashes
Underoath
Funeral for a friend
Imogen
Fallout 40
Atreyu
Sevendust
Poison the well
A perfect circle
Deftones
Tool</b>
They actually played right after Comes with the Fall at the Jerry Cantrell concert I went to. Defintely not as cool as CWTH or Jerry Cantrell, but not too shabby either. I got to meet the band afterwards.
And seriously, I want more of you to check out Comes with the Fall...
Probably a band that should have taken off and hit high on the charts when I was in my early-mid teens, I can't even find a place with the CD in stock any more. Quite a bit of it is depressing if you really listen to the lyrics, but they switch back and forth easily between alternative, and storytelling. Mostly have been compared to Foo Fighters, but I personally think they're closer to Eels. Definitely a GOOD buy, if you manage to find the CD somewhere.
Erm.. does 'Eels' count as an underground band? I'm pretty certain that most everyone in the LA area had heard 'Novocaine for the Soul' at least four or five times a day, when it was getting radio play. They've apparently got a second album out, but I've not heard anything from them in a long while. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
Aquabats probably isn't 'underground' for anyone who likes Ska, but they deserve a mention here just because they're so great. Er... super-rad. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
<a href='http://www.epitonic.com/artists/nakedraygun.html' target='_blank'>http://www.epitonic.com/artists/nakedraygun.html</a>
(including 2 of their biggest hits, as far as punk goes)
<a href='http://www.epitonic.com/files/reg/songs/mp3/Naked_Raygun-Home_Of_The_Brave.mp3' target='_blank'>Home of the Brave</a>
<a href='http://www.epitonic.com/files/reg/songs/mp3/Naked_Raygun-Metastasis.mp3' target='_blank'>Metastasis</a>
Their 4 albums are in my top 20 of all punkness. If you do not know them, you do not know punk music.
Anyways, if you're into metal, check out the following:
<!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
their stage presence is lame... you shoulda got the CD.. $5 for music 5-6X better than the live crap
Kind of like a death metal sound with the raw agression of nearly live playing mixed into their studio albums. Hard as heck to find though :-\
I would seriously once again suggest Comes With the Fall.
Yes that is true. They are rediculously overplayed. I can't stand to listen to them anymore, though I did initially like a few of their songs.
