Windows Is Messing Up

<div class="IPBDescription">Really bad</div> Well, I don't know how to fix the problem and I don't think the Microsoft help will be of much use.

You see, the problem is that certain programs/tabs have stopped working. They are only one's related to Windows but it is REALLY getting on my nerves.

ScanDisk says it will run the next time I start Windows, but that was 2 reboot's ago.
DiskDefrag won't run. It won't give an error but rather it just doesn't pop up.
the Add/Remove programs tab no longer works. Again, no errors but it doesn't pop up.
Other misc. stuff won't run, again with no errors but just not popping up

and by popping up, I mean I try to run it at the start of a 5-hour session. it never shows.

help?

Yea, that is sometimes the only way.

You can also try to repair windows (option during installation) without deleting them, that can sometimes help too, but its not as effective as method #1.

Yeah...format my computer, lose every bit of data I have, re-install Windows with my non-existent CD and then re-install most of the stuff I have on non-existent CD's.

Something that doesn't require re-downloading well over two GB of data on a college I-net connection would be a little more useful.

ok then. Reformat your drive, create two partitions, one with the system (C:?), one with your files (D:?). Reformat C: at heart's content without losing your precious files.

Or do not format anything. Boot do DOS and inside your windows folder delete the "SYSTEM" and "SYSTEM32" folders, also delete "system.dat" and "user.dat" files. Then reinstall.
If this dont help delete whole WINDOWS folder and then reinstall.

Dotnt know why should you not have windows CD. if you REALLY dont have it (althrough i really dont know why) borrow it from some guy.

overall, having system on a different partition is better. (I prefer it this way)

You should do it now rather than wait that you have important data, but it's your call.

I would suggest a windows repair, it wont wipe any of your existing files, however without the cd this is impossible, u must of had a windows xp cd from somewhere?

I have the CD, the issue is just that...sometimes the CD/DVD Drive doesn't read it. Most of the time in fact. And on top of that, it's a false-CD key, as the one that "came" with the CD is illegible and doesn't work.
