Songs With Great Intros...

and that's it...
I wasted a good portion of yesterday after having watched an anime music video: Grand Theft Bebop 2: Vice City (46.2MB), and there was one very specific song that caught my ear, which started at the point "And the Fate of Vice City". I just had to listen to that entire song, so I looked up the soundtrack for Vice City, and having narrowed it down to the Radio Espantoso station, and a process of elimination which pretty much took me through the entirety of the list, I found out that the song was titled "Expansions" by Lonnie Liston Smith. Listening through the intro, I couldn't wait how the rest of the song played out, then all of a sudden, this synthesizer kicks in and some girly-guy's voice starts singing... "NO! What the deuce did you do to that song? It had so much style... so much potential... so much..." /chucks file into recycle bin.
I just get so irked listening to a song that starts out with so much awesomeage suddenly turns weird, resulting in me only liking the first 20-40 seconds of the song. I actually haven't encountered too many of these songs, and even though the first few seconds of the song were the greatest, I can usually manage to listen through to the rest of the song. Here's my current list of songs with wicked intros, but nothing more:
Crystal Method - Name of the Game - *sigh*, could of sounded so cool... BALEETED
The rest of these songs I've kept.
James Brown - Payback (Fatboy Slim Remix)
Wiseguys - Start the Commotion (Put the body in Motion)
Hellsing - Hisshou Myouhou Renge Kyoku
Over time however, the parts of the song I originally found to be annoying, I eventually accept without trouble.
Any songs you guys consider to have great openings, (or perhaps a great middle, or great ending), for an otherwise so-so or horrible song?
[edit]By the way, for those of you that watched the clip, can anyone ID the second last song? I know I SHOULD hate 80's music, but it seemed catchy; probably just because it fit so damn well with the music video[/edit]

Isaac Hayes "Theme from Shaft"
Of course, these both rock all the way through, still though..
And on the technical side, its great that he used the DVD source footage instead of just downloading the episodes like most people who make these things do. Also not a completely crap compression rate is good.
While we're on the topic, something I've always wondered about AMV's is just how legal are they? It would seem as if most copyright holders don't really care that much about them (as in, aren't jumping to sue them all). This one is probably exempt on the music side as I don't think any one song clip was longer than 30 seconds (and complies with Fair Use laws) however the video footage from Cowboy Bebop: The Movie might be a different story. I've heard rumors that anime companies don't really mind people spreading Fansubs of series, perhaps its the same with AMVs?
Meh, I dunno.

As i understand it, fan subbing is completely legal as long as the fansubs are distributed to an area where the series in question has not yet been licensed. (I don't study law, my terms are probably incorrect.)
In otherwords, when a series is released in Japan, up untill the point where some company licenses the series for American distribution, fan subs can be made of that series and distributed legally in America assuming you don't charge for them. Once the series is picked up by a company for release in America, fan sub distrubution ceases. What i don't know is, if you're allowed to continue to posses a fansub version of a series, that was subbed and distributed prior to that series being picked up for western release. It surely creates alot of possible loop holes, and AMVs might get away with the use of video footage because of this to some degree. Aside from the legal issues, i can't see any anime producer sueing for the use of video in an AMV. The AMV's are very short, showing only clips from the video, and might as well be free advertising. There may even be laws allowing the use of short clips from a video.
If this works the way i think it works, this would make just about all fan subs completely legal in the UK. Since practically no anime is ever picked up for UK release.

One of my favorite Iron Maiden songs as well.
Best intro anywhere, anytime.
Other than that, the bombastic black metal intro to Ancient Rites's song "Fatherland" has always stirred something in me.
Other than that, there's Hatebreed's "I Will Be Heard". Many time's i've been standing at the bar in a club only to hear "Now, is the time, for me to rise, to my feet." and found myself dashing to the dancefloor for some good ol' family beatdowns.

Ah, I was under the impression (from my roomate who is an anime freak) that it wasn't so much that fansubs were legal, but that the anime makers didn't mind them because they could look at who is downloading what and get an idea on what's popular where. Then when they do decide to release that series in that area the fansubbers respect that and stop fansubbing and also stop distributing the fansubs. At least that's what I'm told. Its definately an interesting move if it is indeed how things work.

I've visited their forums before to see why they don't seem to be effected by copyright action.
On the video side: They say the anime producers don't mind; the AMVs actually help increase more attention to series, so they often act much like trailers. They give a snippet, some dude comes across the clip, the dude becomes interested in the series itself.
On the audio side: They say the RIAA and such haven't gone after them yet because they're not totally well known yet, and they're not the big fish that the RIAA is currently after; RIAA's just taking their time with Joe MP3.
