Check the error .log message for xyz coordinates for an entity that gives that leak, like entity "light" caused leak at (-2567 , 341 , -346)
Open your map in VHE beta 3.5 goto "map" "load pointfile" and load your pointfile.lin
You should see a long werid knot of a green/blue line. err RED blue

The red end of this line is at/near the entity at thoose xyz coordinates, should be inside of your map.
The blue end should be at the border of your map, like at (2000,2000,2000).

Follow the red part untill you find the gap in your map that leads to the outside. (=leak)

Ollj, that is quite possibly the worst explaination of using a pointfile in Hammer.

Steg: The best thing to do is to copy your .bsp, .lin, and .pts files to your ns/maps directory. Load your map, and then in the console, type "pointfile". This will display a dotted line that will lead you right to the hole in your map.

Loading a pointfile in Hammer is utterly and completely useless, as it is next to impossible to figure out where your leak is, especially if you have a larger map.

Zazi, that is completely wrong. If you are patient and follow the line in hammer (you apparently are not), you can quite easily find the leak and fix it on the spot despite its length and complexity. Also i don't know about anyone else but i've had trouble using the pointfile in game. Ie i followed the line to a room where i assume the leak was, looked down, and half life froze. So in short i don't think using the pointfile in game is very reliable.

especially on big maps you get allockblockfull when its leaked (HL crashes).
opening in hammer is the only alternative.

On small maps the pc can crash when you load a leaked map, join a team near a leeak or found the leak.

I find it easier to use VHE's .pts/.lin file support. The 3d view works quite well for this purpose. First, it's automatically set to noclip, and also you don't have to work with so much choppiness while you're in the void (not to mention the HOM effect).

Thx guys although i can actually follow the line as it goes everywhere and crosses 5000 times (ish) also there seems to be about 20 ends to the red line, if i zoom in a lot, but in the profle thingy is only says one (which is below) and i dont have a blue line on it. and out of curisity what does the pointfile actually do, because it doesnt go all the way around my map (good or bad i dunno) neway if u could be like the greates person on the planet by actually telling me where abouts this area is on the image id love u...ok maybe id just be grateful

I find i can see a leak in hammer easilly, if i change the 3d view to flat rendering, that way my eyes can focus better as there are no textures to bug me.

Steq, download Hammer 3.5 beta from http://collective.valve-erc.com/

Then you can see the line in 3d view and it is much easier to follow.

Also, use the .lin file- it's a bit easier to follow.

best ways to fix a leek, if your level has no broken walls or gaps sowing the hammer void

1
Check that you have no point entitys (lights, spawns etc) out side the map, insdie the black void

2
DO NOT funk_wall walls, its confusing i know, but funk_wall is used to make soild brushes - such as unbrakble glass

3
If you want sky, use the texture "sky" and place it where you want your sky to be - this was my big issues as a n00b mapper, wating sky, so i left a big hole at the top of my map
