How Do You Play On Both Won And Steam Servers?

Can it even be done?
Last Wednesday night 5 of my clansmen and myself (having already converted to STEAM) had to play a match on a WON server. AS all 6 of us had left our Half Life folder intact when we installed STEAM we assumed there'd be no problem. WRONG!!! Four of us had to do a FRESH install of HalfLife to gain access to this WON server, and 5 out of 6 of us succeded eventually in connecting. So, I'm a happy boy thinking now I can play on WON servers and STEAM too, which I did that night.

WRONG AGAIN!!! Although I was successful a week ago in having access to BOTH WON and STEAM servers, the next time I joined through STEAM it borked my HalfLife again, evidenced by my failure just now to connect to a WON server due to authentication.

My question is this... My STEAM is correctly installed in my Program Files, My Half Life resides in "C" happily where it has always been, but -

How does one set this up so they can play on both WON and STEAM servers, whichever they may chose??? I swear STEAM is somehow overwriting my HalfLife......

Highlight your SIERRA folder, right click, and hit properties. Check "Read-Only". Steam won't be able to edit your existing Half-Life installation. You might, however, want to uncheck Read-Only when you go to play on WON, or it might not work.

I dunno if Steam actually screws with WON-HL or not...

Has always been to the best of my knowledge.

Problem corrected! MY HLDS 1.1.2.0 (which also runs on this box) was using port 27015, preventing me from joining WON servers.
I change my server's port to 27014, and WALLAH! I can join a WON server now, AND a STEAM if I so desire. The 2 can both peacefully co-exist on your client.
