A question for the mod team
I read this on the Bushido news page hosted under PlanetHalfLife (http://www.planethalflife.com/bushido/) :
"After conversing with the top dogs at Valve, it became known to us (and I believe common knowledge now anyway) that Valve had planned on moving all their major modifications (TFC, CS, DoD etc) to the Half-Life 2 engine and indeed was already in the process of doing so. This came as quite a shock to us as it potentially meant the life of the Half-Life engine was fading faster than we had anticipated. While support would still be given to Half-Life modifications, the players that would most likely not and so we had to face reality. Valve also told us (again, now common knowledge) that they would be releasing tools that would allow Half-Life mod teams to easily port their modifications to the new Source engine"
I was wondering what if any plans there are pertaining to porting over NS. It may seem a bit prematrue as I know things are still in full swing after the Steam release and 2.1 and Combat coming but any info would be nice.

All we know is what is on the front page of natural-selection.org. They're looking into it, but chances are that they'll want to make full use of the engine rather than just lump it all over. What that means is that all the models, textures, maps etc. would have to be re-done. Not to mention taking advantage of the new physics and potential for new/redone weapons (flamethrower? volumetric spores?).
No, there are no current plans to move NS to Half-Life 2. Reasons:

It would require a large deal of re-coding to optimize for the Source engine. If not a complete recode, due to the complexity of NS. Flayra is not getting paid, and is likely quite tired of living on the kind contributions of Constellation members.

It would require a complete new set of maps to be created, for optimal visual impact.

It would require all of the textures to be re-created at higher detail, for same.

It would require a complete character remodel, allowing for higher poly models, as well as require EVERYTHING to be bumpmapped and set up for high-range rendering.
In short, the amount of work it would require would be prohibitive in the extreme, for uncertain benefit. As it stands now, NS has what it needs under Half-Life. HL2 would mostly add eye-candy, from what we've seen at this point. It'd be nice, but is less 'worth it' for the time being.
