'ns Can't Reach The Game

Ok Here's the problem, after I choose a server in the multiplayergame screen, is see my typical stuff like serve info and stats I wait untill the connecting is done, or i wait untill he downloads some wav.s and then starts the game.. we'll anyway, after that really fast a little text arrives saying I caný talk to other users using my mic and then the screen lifts up a little like normal, but then the error occurs..
I get an Fatal Exeption 0E on 0028:C17C19AA in VXD Asp4Wave(01)
and I have to press a key and get kicked into windows again, plus my screens brightness is almost maxed out, what's really weird because my monitor says nothing has changed..
Minor detail the brightness thing (you can compare to adjusting the gamma to the max in halflife occurs during the lifting of the screen when the game usually starts, like in CS or DOD..
Small note I have a similar error when I use other mods other than CS, DOD, Underworld, Si and TFC..
plz help me out..

screen over bright is simply what hapens when NS crashes, the quick fix is to run the program reset gama in your NS dir.
as for the crash, this hapens in more then one mod?
try a fresh reinstall of all things HL
oh, and are you trying to run steam?
That seriously sounds like sound drivers to me. See if you can update them in anyway possible.
And if NS ever crashes and you get a washed out screen, do what Thansal said. There's a resetgamma program in your ns directory. (also should be in program files->natural selection
