<div class="IPBDescription">errr....ya</div> A while back, I started making this pistol, as something to learn off of to learn modelling. So here is the result of my best work so far:

<img src='http://moo.xhibitreign.com/frontpistol.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

I'm gonna go try and find the post where I got the concept from...

I can't even draw a stright line myself <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
I suggest using this for other areas as well. Also, I am the master of all things orange.
Any easier way to select them in MS3D?
There's a nice MS plugin you might find handy btw.( Dunno about you, but I always found the lack of a proper "Select stuff in 3D view" option to be the single worst thing about Milky..)
Found it, you want MSSelectionEditor, it's about halfway down the news page..

Not perfect, but might be of some use, now available in DX8 flavour as well...

err....the other side. Ya. Other side <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->.
Ask the guy who did the concept...if I can ever find out who he is...

weird...
No probs, I didn't find it, I think Del ( was it? dunno.. ) posted it ages ago but newer forum monkeys might not have seen it, and it <i>is</i> a fix for the major weakness in Milky....
YES! THATS ACID-SNAKE'S! THERE WE GO! w00T!
Ok, heres my new problem: Using Brigadiers way of smoothing out the handle, I end up with a ton of backfaces...and its quite apparent in the 3D view. Now, The problem is, some of them are true backfaces, some aren't, and its too hard to tell which. How to get rid of?
And.. backfaces? I know what those are, But I dont quite follow you on how you wound up with so many, Unless you used a massive amount of vertices in the original curve of the handle.
Still, that's both the good and bad thing about this whole gfx thing, there's always at least 3 ways to do something..
/shrugs
Actually.. I dont use MS3d anyway.. But I have, so i figure Id give some tips.. anyway, Yeah, some kinda plugin is probably good.
Actually, being this is MY learning project, I'm gonna be doing EVERYTHING from scratch. I'm talking from here to animation, I wanna know how to do it, so I can say that I honestly am a accomplished modeller.
Brigadier, THANK YOU FOR GOD'S SAKE! I've been trying to select by vertexes forever, but didn't realise there was a way to do this....YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!
You'll always end up making boxy models that way.
Me, once i do something in a view in MS3D, i always rotate around the model in the perspective to get a better feel for the overall look of the model.
Your model looks like you made it all in the LEFT and FRONT viewport. Bad way to work.
You have to be able to visualise the whole model and think of the "DEPTH" of the model in ANY viewport.
Here ya go with the wacky backface/degredation....(what the hell happened?!)

And here's the concept I got it from:

MS3D is crap like that.
It can give you a REALLY big mess of polys for no reason.
Thats why i only swear by 3D Studio max ( ANY version) since you can edit all you want DIRECTLY from the 3D Perspective!
If there is a converter from MS3D, I'd convert, and use that from here...but...ya.
yup milkshape is one of the easyest modeling progs out there(ever tryed softimage xsi ?) man thats a confusin prog <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
im not that good to but with maya, 3dsm,gmax,or softimage; i even cant do a lolipop <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
this progs are damn much harder to use than milkshape
