I wuz bored so i made this NS music remover thingy, copy the files to your Half-Life directory and run the batch file, that shod get rid of that background music that NS keeps playing and screws up your voicecomm and MP3 player.

Ummm, yeh enjoy!

PS: Yes i know its 1kb, it works though.

umm or you could just rename/remove the ambience sound folder? or doesnt that work?
  • zoddtheimmortalzoddtheimmortal Join Date: 2003-07-23 Member: 18363Members
I dont know, i havent tried that. I thought it would come up with an error saying that it cant find the music files. Anyways wat this does is replace all the music mp3's with a blank one.

If you dont want to listen to the Ns music then here are your choices:

Turn it off in options (i'm pretty sure it's there)
    or
Delete your songs in the Ns/Music Folder.

Anybody with enough common sense could do that lol.

Hmm.. I thought the ambient music was one of the coolest parts of the game.. In fact, I think they should add MORE music.. Like, Battle music for when your in combat and stuff... AMBIENCE IS GOD

Hey, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. zoddtheimmortal obviously doesn't like the music, and I'm positive he's not alone. He's helping those who a) Don't like the music and b) Don't know how to get rid of it. Don't be so hard on the guy, he's trying to help.

its easy to get rid of just either empty the folder or set it up to an empty folder

    <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> in ns options you can chose your own mp3 folder as backround music <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

<b>He is not talking about the music</b>. He's talking about the ambient stuff you hear. Triad's hum is an example. Another is the engine in maintaince. All of those are both unstoppable (through normal means) and also are independent of in game volume, which is my biggest problem with them.

Edit: Meh, my bad. I was really hoping he was. Sorry. =/

You could uh, turn it off in the Customize menu, or do the console command (Which escapes me at the moment).

Exactly what surge said. Multiplayer > Customize > Adv Options: Uncheck "music enabled"

The "stopsound" command only works for .WAVs .
While has the most annoying sounds are .MP3s .

Really? Didn't know that. Well i never use stopsound with the intention to stop the music so that must have slipped by me. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

I wonder why nobody has noticed that Options, CFG file ya can remove music playing. and panther replace the sound with null, sound nothing there, you won't hear enything then.
  • avaxxavaxx Join Date: 2003-08-05 Member: 18910Members, Constellation
Because maybe they were thinking along the same lines that I was. The music can be turned off, yes. The ambient annoying **** sounds cannot be.

    /shameless plug

Of course, one could always download my Ambience Pack, which contains replacements for almost every ambient sound in the game with sounds that are much less intrusive.

    Listen to a <a href='http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/daoctotalsound/atmospheric.mp3?use_mirror=easynews' target='_blank'>PREVIEW</a> sound. (338 KB mp3 file)

Download the pack (9.1 MB zip file) <a href='http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/daoctotalsound/ambience2.0.zip?download' target='_blank'>HERE</a>

actually, I had a better idea, I made most of the MP3(and some wav) ambient sounds into music from Red Faction and FreeSpace, makes good if you like music ingame as much as me <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Will ppl pls stop mistaking music for ambient noises, which are background sounds such as water dripping, or the hum of a power generator. Get it right ppl!

    - Net Nazi *salutes*

P.S. - There really needs to be some option where we can at least reduce Ambient Noise, so I can hear the pitter-patter of approaching skulk feet ^_^.
