Thought - what would NS in the HL2 engine be called?

I was distinctly under the impression that he wanted NS to be an exciting sci fi game, and wanted to avoid getting anywhere near the horror genre.
In line with this, I don't see any reason why ragdoll physics would be a bad thing. I can see why he might avoid over the top injury-decals on the players, but once again as long as it's kept tasteful I doubt it would be considered "too much"

rag doll would be ok, but limbs falling off and blood like sof..no I would like to see infestation grow. Kinda like with the undead in warcraft3. As the buildings go farther out, the infestion goes farther. Imagine the entire map being infested, but didn't start out that way. Hehe. Those dark corridors with blue and red flashes! Hehe. Its all the little things that just make it look better.
Ns on HL2 will be so much more impressing and better I think. So much more atmosphere

Yes just imagine some of these things from the HL2 videos in NS. Think about some marines flipping a table and pushing it into a door only to have an Onos blow the door open, flinging the table across the room (and probably making a marine pancake or two in the process )
Maybe you could have actual marine assualt maps, kinda like tsa find the kharaa homeworld and start a final invasion. With vehicles and heli's and fighting the last battle seeing new alien lifeforms ect, ect.
Maybe the ability to create an even more scarier pace then what it is now. More then 5 lifeforms too for aliens ! (since the limit of weapons won't be there anymore). Altough I can't come up with any ideas for new lifeforms : I'll leave that to Flayra (or the design team).
The ability to make bigger maps ! Of course there is no need to make huge maps that take you 30 mins to go trough, but sometimes you could make interesting maps. Suppose Flayra include a NPC alien transporter (or PC) : alien start in on an infested platform. Marines arrive in with their shuttle from their main ship. (IE : their base is on the main ship... I don't know if you see what I'm imagining).
Goal for aliens : Cleanse the mothership. Goal for Marines : Extarminate the xenoforms from the infested platform.
That would be a doable map (i think) that we can't make at the moment.
We just might get our skorpian that hovars without flapping (you knew it was coming)
yes i regestered just to post this.

how bout some new hull sizes? ~;) things i'd like to see -partial alien upgrades: want an acid rocket on your skulk? grow one and have your model reflect it -alien buildings that interact with the map: slime filled tunnels/burrows through 'solid' brushes, gestation havens, secondary spawn points -BIG maps. ones that change their layout between round by locking doors, collapses etc which prevent players and comms from accessing these parts. if these layouts were made in a rough sequence have them push one way or the other depending on who won. -not so much objectives, but complex optional sequences which affect gameplay. -lots of sexy bump-mapped textures /me pokes SLAP ~;) I'm sure Flayra has some interesting ideas. psst, post them anonymously so we can at least hear them without anyone trying to hold you to something
dont forget the higher server capacity... that makes room for ALOT of maps... like huge and new upgrades and stuff to support/attack.
I'd like to see the old fade's blink back in. That was some hotness -- hopefully HL2 will not have those stuck issues (although I have no reason to think that)

QUOTE (Revenge @ Sep 30 2003, 05:12 PM)

And while normal NS gamers may not appreciate the possibilties of this, most mappers would wet their pants at the idea of building a TSA dropship in the map editor with moving doors, manable turrets, location specific damage for each plate of armour with dynamic display screens on the inside of the dropship telling you how much dmg the drop ship has taken and where, and cameras so we can all see what the pilot sees...

This actually gives rise to one possible idea; imagine if you could have vehicles have a room which acts similar to the APC from Aliens, where every marine has a camera on their visor, and you can see everything they all see from inside on different monitors?
Actually welding doors shut by slowly moving along the door's edges while the door is closed. Not just standing there pointing the welder at the weld icon.
NS for HL 2 can be resumed by a certain quote from a certain movie that a few people know about:
"I say we take off and nuke the entire site from space. It's the only way to be sure."
Now, with HL 2, we can actually do that!
The coolest idea I can come up with for a possible HL2 port: AI-extended teams. Imagine every human player on both teams not being a simple grunt / slasher, but a squad / packleader with, say, four AI units supporting them. The strategical depth would increase tremendously (coordinating the different groups movements, effective flanking, large-scale-cover fire...), and just think of 16 player servers with 75 active fighters in the battle...
Not a bad idea, nem. But one part of NS I really enjoy is fighting real-live human marines, not some cheap AI bots... I suppose it should be tried out though.
My idea?
Fix the hitboxes, #1.
Games would have to last longer to accomadate bigger maps.

Could make for some intense battles!
I can see it working well for the marines, with the commander being able to hand out equipment to specific bots or players (ie he outfits just the players with HA, until he can afford to give the bots some armour as well).
But I wonder how that would work for aliens? It would be awesome to have all your followers go lerk with you (mostly cos my final flight of the osiris rip off scene involving the dropship would look friggin awesome if 15 lerks were chasing it rather than 3!).
It's just like fighting someone with near-perfect aim and 0 ping. Add a bunch of them together.. and you've got a big problem on your hands.
On the other hand...
robots! The Commander can build robots from a new building at a certain cost. The robot is 100% obediant and can dish out some serious punishment/firepower. But it's slow movement and turning speed could make it an easy target from behind. Basically, it would be the "riot sheild" of NS which would be first on the front line and the other marines hide behind it.

And some intense lag at least with 75 AI´s in there more like 10-20.. anyway, i like the idea, you could give the AI´s ther boring tasks caus they wont wander off randomly
What would i make? hmm... well, larger maps for sure, perhaps with outdoor areas as well as indoor, and a vehicle or 2 in the outside areas, i heard dropship mentioned here before.... More guns, of course, add in a Medium machine gun and up the HMG power, kinda to increase the scope of the game. On the same note i would add more powerups (like thermal goggles, lets you see about 10 feet or so through walls and cloacked units, hey, theres a pheromones replacement! thermal camo, makes you invisible to the guy with the goggles ) and maybe more buildings forboth teams. More aliens, maybe boost up the fade and onos in the food chain and add something between lerk and fade, add another one between fade and onos perhaps (see above about scope) don't ask me what, most of you could probably come up with ideas for aliens 10 times better then mine More interactive maps, with doors that can be shut by marines, but it takes a fade or onos to bash it down (hmm.. wonder where i got that ), then some things that an alien can do to effect the map, a gorge could build some kind of veiney alien biomass stuff to clog up machinery, jam elevators, turn off the lights in some area and such, the marines could then access the "infected" device and weld it clean, they would preferably have to go around the obstacle to get to the controls
well, thats what i would do.
Edit: oh! i forgot! Water. Add lots and lots of water make FI some cloudy pools that the marines cant see through, but give some of the aliens (skulk and fade come to mind, but not onos or lerk, they dont belong in water) the ability to see through it to some extent, it could make for some good strategic ambush points and heightened tension
The Ture Physics is what gets me all warm in-side.
Explosions with shockwaves REAL Volumetric Fire True bullet effects, the biger the gun, the more DMG it will do... to everything The Gravity System. The new Replusor gun gives you an Idea.. Curves! High dealtailed everything Dynamic lights New models/skins Animations down to the fingers on a hand!
Then you have got all the other great things like the improved AI. Imagine the return of bablers. AI that can think, ambush, comunicate, hunt and go so far as to set traps.
Then you have the new interactive enviroments. Being able to destroy parts of the level. Burn things, turn off the power, flood an area, start a machine and drive it. The list is endless.
HL2 would give NS the most amazing si-fi ever!
One thing is for sure If Flayra doesn't make a NS2 on HL2, he will get left behind in the mod world really fast! I think its important that he gets a balanced and fun version of NS2.1 out soon so that he can start the ground work on NS2 for HL2 as soon as it comes out.
The community should start thinking of a cool name for NS2. I think we have done this before but for the NS movie...?
