an invalid solid structure occurs when a line drawn across teh object in question crosses more than 2 lines in the x y or z planes.

if you know math the top part of a face and the bottom part of a face have to have the same slope but sometimes i can't get away with it being a little different. just mess with your brush until it works.
hit alt + p after any vertex manipulation, it'll save you some pain.
