Just three
1. Will there deffinately be a marine vs marine mode in version 2?

2. Will the textures from all the maps be compiled into one giant NS WAD, or will it be like CS with them all split up?

3. If there is a Marine Vs Marine mode what will the opposition of the TSA take the form of?

Thanks in advance

Hi! All my answers are STC (Subject To Change). (:

    1. No. Yes. STC. It's really too early to give a definite answer, but I'd say it's pretty likely.

    2. There *is* a main NS.wad, which mappers are encouraged to use as exclusively as possible. If a mapper uses custom textures, these custom textures will be included with the map install. I couldn't tell you if Flay will be compiling these; something in me says no, as the textures are technically the personal work of the mapper.

    3. I doubt even Flayra knows the answer to this question right now... let's wait till V.2, eh? Just trust that when it *is* answered, it'll be a good answer with a kick-@$$ backstory to explain it.

    Yes... well...

Alien vs. alien = Pure DEATHMATCH! o.@

Marines vs. Marines = Overly zealous tactician clan mode.

Exactly. And that way, NS gets even more people playing.

Well for MvM, i don't think there need to be different models. Just make them in a different color (not the whole model, only some parts, colored stripes on the armor, a colored emblem on the helmet...)
How this will work for aliens i can't imagine...

I'd love to see a whole new set of aliens. They could have the same abilities, just *look* different... a cosmetic difference, like the humans vs. orcs in Warcraft 1 and 2.

thats alot of work!!! it'll be like having 3 races. They could even remodel an other marine team, but give them a more space pirate type style, tsa vs intergalactik drug dealers. 4 races!!, maybe by v4.7...

I think it would be possible to reskin them. At the momment they have a pink, fleashy like skin, they could have the same models but be more reptile like with a greenish skin with scales or something.

Of course it's a lot of work. I'm not saying it'll happen... but it'd be cool.

Though I love all these V2 ideas, can we concentrate on the REAL issue: I WANT NS SO BAD I CAN TASTE IT!

    ... Mmmm! Binary!

Maybe, maybe not, it could end up with 10 servers and not one playing the mode you like. I personally don't like the idea, I'd rather have one really good mode of play that they could continue working on and making better rather than a jack of all trades and master of none(I'm not saying they could'nt make all the gameplay modes fun, it just seems a bit doubtful) I'm probably in the minority on this, considering we're living in a post counter-strike age and RTS buffs are probably yearning for some Marine Vs. Marine action, but this is just my opinion.

Im really hoping they will add MvM to NS. Granted i havent played the mod yet, but im sure it will be a whole different kind of play from Aliens Vs Marines. Maps would need to be made, settings tweaked, etc, but it will be a great incentive to keep us looking toward the next release of NS.

The problem with this is at the end of a corridor, you can't really tell if that marine is a friend or enemy, even if you do change his textures around a bit, he would have to have something distinct on his model that lets other friendlies/marines know who he is.
  • XyberBobXyberBob Join Date: 2002-07-12 Member: 918Members
Also Bill, NS is becoming so extremely popular it is stupid to think it will only have 10 servers all together, im expecting around, something hundred, maybe a thousand upon release (hopefully)
  • BillBill Join Date: 2002-08-08 Member: 1108Members
I agree that it's becoming extremely popular and upon release there will be A LOT of servers, but I've seen a lot of MOD releases come and go and I am hoping as much as you are that NS is as fun as it looks and sounds, but we have no way of knowing now and if it doesn't please the community they'll all run back to their counter-strike within days(which isn't neccesarily a bad thing. Just an example, The Opera had a huge community all yearning for it's release, it looked and sounded good it was released and was a bit buggy but still fun to play, yet within about a week the servers began to dwindle, and now there are about 6 or 7 servers I can find playing. I seriously doubt this will happen to NS, I think it will find it's niche in the community, and will continue to grow and become better.
  • LongtoothLongtooth Join Date: 2002-07-02 Member: 863Members
If there are few servers I plan to wander, if there are alot I will pick one and only play there. Thats what I did in CS and we had our own little community.

    Thanks people

    1. I hope there is a Marine Vs Marine mode, although I would worry about it becoming more popular than Marine Vs alien. I wanted to know this because I missed out on this mapping deadline, and I thought about starting a marine Vs marine map.

    2. I hope the NS WAD is one large WAD, I hate trying to map for CS when you have to search through all the WADs to find one texture, it would make mapping easier to have every NS texture in one WAD. However, I suppose there could be problems with attributing textures to artists.

    3. It would be awsome to have a rebel type force. Maybe miners or something.

When I started reading your post I was thinking 'The Opera'.

I downloaded that, played it for like a day, and deleted it. Sure the site looked good, sure the idea sounded neat, sure the community was huge, sure it was in development for years, but when it came out everyone played it and went back to mods they liked.

It is stupid to think the same couldn't happen to NS.. the game *looks* great, but you might play it and think 'this is retarded, I am going back to a fun mod like Kannonball' and delete it. It doesn't matter what people say about the game.. you have to play it to make your own conclusions. The mod community has to give it a spin before it is a success. You can't judge a book by it's cover even if it is bound in gold.

Edit: Changed wouldn't with couldn't.. sounded like I was saying it WOULD be a failure.

taht's actually REALLY tru. but from the pts comments, the game is really good so far. but who knows what will happen? personally, i think ns would become really popular and b better than cs (sounds a lot cooler than cs too).

neways... i thought of something to diffrenciate the teams if its MvM or AvA (dunno if its good tho). for each team, they have sorta little coloured sign above their heads, so ppl could tell the diff. but i'd b cheap if u could just see some1 in a dark corner becuz of the little sign above their heads, so i dunno. just think about it. or u could do somethin like tfc and colour code the ppl. just think about my ideas.

    DEATH FROM ABOVE!!!

Quake 3 was like that. The teams had colored shapes over their heads, and I swear everyone looked like Teletubbies. All the more reason to shoot.
