Ns_eclipse Strat

<div class="IPBDescription">it works, bear with me.</div> i've been playing around with some ideas, and i came up with a fairly simple strategy (just the way i like them). i should even work with teams of 'less-competent' players.

granted that the starting hive isn't eclipse command, if it is, then you will obviously take maint. anyways.

right off the bat build a tf, electrify it, then build an ip right next to it. build it in the annoying little brush that the skulks like to hide in so the turrets can't shoot them, or so i've heard. anyways, thats your base, one ip and an elec tf. no ******** armory. armory humping will pwn this plan. you need to be quick. with nothing in base to entertain the rines they will leave quicker. send two people as an egg hunting team, most likely to south loop. they can be your more experienced players, as the rest are just building. send everyone but one person (base guard) to eclipse, build a tf on the raised portion to the north, then two turrets next to it (one on each side), and one across the room on the other side of the node. this should cover everything for now. build a res node. send 4 marines to triad to cap that node, and then electrify it. build and obs and research pg. that should be the extent of your starting res, plus any you've accumulated over time. regroup at base, then take horseshoe res (4+nodes), and move outside of their first hive. do a pg rush on it. the corner to the north near the entrance to maint is a good spot for maint, or the nook near cc (where everyone used to siege from) if its cc. there are two things that happen.

1.) you are able to hold your position. then either lmg the hive (handing out shotties to expedite the process), or set up a siege and take down the hive.

2.) you get r4ped. you lose a pg and give them a few rfk, no big deal. begin upgrades and secure res for counterattacks.

if you are successful, you have a 2 hive lockdown, a monkey could finish it from there.

if you aren't...
send another group to the hive (as a distraction) and sneak siege the other hive with your best men+shotties. this *should* work. if it doesn't, there isn't really anything you can do other than keep fighting. some people underestimate the power of a 3 man team stealthily making their way through the vents or what have you. with 3 people you can have a tf, 2 turrets and siege tech (50 or so res) in under a minute. so unless you are discovered within 2 minutes, they are screwed, as onos can't fit in vents. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> wait for siege tech (while accumulating res), and put up two siege cannons.

i didn't put a 'build armory' step in there, i'll just leave it up to you, however i wouldn't build one until you NEED it. people will just hump it and die with 343243 extra bullets.

like i said this is pretty simple. you hold 4 res nodes, which is a lot considering that i don't have an HA train or squadron of jp/gl,shotty included. the idea is kill the aliens as soon as possible, before you see a lot of onos or have to worry about upgrades. i have tried this a few times and have won some pretty interesting games. key word, interesting, as in not boring a$$ games where camp 3 turret farms, get pwnosed and then camp base while they get 3 hives.

i did get ejected once because no one saw the ip next to the tf, even though they built it. go figure. please don't flame me or try to raise your post count by saying 'useless', or 'this already exists, i am leet and win every game'....

<offtopicness> i know this is old, but i just found it, try2hack.nl should entertain you for a good 2 hours. </offtopicness>

good, but I dunno how it'll hold up vs fades ...

Id say the risky part is sending your team off to so many different directions..

I use similar tactics to this, but I'd recommend not stubbornly going along the same route all the time. You can use the period where you are capping the nodes to gauge the skill of your marines and then adjust your tactics accordingly.

thanks for the input, i don't 'stubbornly' go this path all the time, as it IS risky. as far as fades are concerned i haven't really been confronted with multiple good (kill the whole team without touching the ground) fades. one or two really isn't a problem though early on in the game as long as you stick together. i find that fades aren't really that effective against groups of marines due to their reliance on a weak melee attack early on. 3 or so marines is more than enough to keep a fade at bay as long as they pay attention.

i just thought that i'd throw out a strat and get some outside influence.

    No they don't.

I was playing on a server the other day with a commander that refused to lock down a second hive on mineshaft, we killed tram tunnel, he sent us to sewer, tram tunnel came back up, we killed it again, he sent us back to sewer, tram tunnel cam back up again, he sent us to kill it again we got it down, then got killed by the four onos they managed to get in the time we spent running from hive to hive.

So basically we killed the same hive 3 times because he refused to drop a TF.

    No, no, no.

I mean at the start of the game, like right away making for a boring, long **** game. Killing a hive, and then fortfiying it lightly is all well and good.
