Michelle Branch Is Awesome

I'm shocked too.
I'm not a pop fan. I like rock and punk. For some incredibly odd reason though, Michelle Branch decided to start her new CD tour at, of all places, Marist College in Poughkeepsie NY.
From her website: "Michelle Branch Tour
10/02/2003: McCann Center Marist College Poughkeepsie, New York United States" wooo
"What the hell" I thought. "She's a nationally known artist. It'll be fun to at least say I went. Plus theres a rock band opening."
The concert was at 8. I got my ticket in the student center at 7:45, and went down to the gym.
I get there, the rock band was playing. "the Dacomas". They were awesome! They talked about how broke they were, so I felt bad pirating their stuff. I didn't have $ to buy the CD though. But they are awesome. A nice mix of Everclear and Creed. (VERY little bit of creed, rest assured).
Anyway, it took about 30 minutes for Ms. Branch to finally take the stage after this. I was expecting some ok stuff. I was blown away.
First, this girl is the antithesis of Britney Spears and Christina Aguleria. She's not fat, but she's not anorexic. I'd say size 4-6. About 5'6, 5'5. A NORMAL GIRL. She's cute though. :-)
Really cute. MMMmmmm.
Anyway, she shocked me by proving she is a real artist. How? Alone, onstage, with a guitar. Singing, playing everything herself. She's a terrific singer, sounds even BETTER than on recordings. And she played for about 70% of her songs. That was cool.
She also seemed really into the crowd. She smiled when she saw a group of guys acting up. Someone ahd a sign "Come out with us tonite". She asked where they were going. She giggled and relayed the reply to the audience. "Across the street." (Theres a really ghetto bar)
Anyway, it was actually really great. Most of the songs were awesome (this coming from a rock fan). It was a lot of fun. If you're tired of pop and some faith in pop culture redeemed, don't be afraid to go to the conert. It was 20 bucks general public (10 for Marist students, woot).
Also, the rock band is well worth going for too.

Interesting.
From what I've heard, however, I think she's closer to rock than pop.
... Right?
Probably closer to pop rock and then some folksy stuff.
Well, I knew she was good looking (she wouldn't be popular if she wasn't.) But wow. She looked like the kind of cute girl you could bump into on the street and not a model.
you, sir, are hilarious.
edit: added to the book
She reminds me of the old Jewel, the one who wasn't a..Britney spears wannabe.
Jammer, you should watch a couple Michelle Branch music video's, she always plays her own guitar. But then, so does Tori Amos. But Michelle Branch hasn't sold out to corporations yet, so I like her music.
Everywhere is okay, I like You Get Me, Drop in the Ocean (which I think is a remake, but it's a nice song to sleep too, as long as the volume's low) and Sweet Misery. The other songs on the CD are pretty good too. Unfortunately, I can't afford the new CD either (if the concert is $22, how could I afford a $15 CD?)
Bah, I've never been to a concert before, either. College takes to much of my money.

She wouldn't be popular unless she made young men faint, sir.
