I've been meaning to donate to contellation for so long. Once I was even on the "submit payment" screen. All I had to do was click ONE button and I would have been in. But then I remembered I had to send my WONID, so I went into NS to find it. Then I got caught up in a game.....

Oh and that explains why certain veterans are still requesting that bunny-hopping go back into NS?
I donated money because I wanted to. I made a promise when I joined the forums that I would give the developers the equivilant cost of a new release game, because of all the games I have played, NS was the one that deserved it the most. I have honoured that promise, and I will probably give more in the future. I didn't ask for anything then and I ask for nothing now. Anything that Flayra wants to give us I will be more than grateful for.
What I am getting sick and tired of is the treatment I recieve in many servers. I had to put up with a bunch of tools yesterday who kept saying "Yeah if you donate money you get a little L next to your name for Loser" and "Oh so now we should kiss your arse because you gave money". I did not ask for such treatment. People ask me every single game "Hey Ryo, what's that symbol next to your name?" and I fire off my bind: "The icon next to my name is a Constellation icon. It means I donated money to the NS development team. Find out more at www.natural-selection.org". That's all I say, I never say "Bow before me puny mortals I ams teh "elite"". And yet I get bashed and abused for it. I've gone into games with my icon OFF and been treated better.
So whilst I don't ask for special treatment, what I do ask is that people just treat me like another player.
As for what Flayra will be giving us I have no idea. Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with Flayra adding a donation benefit. I donated without expecting anything, but if Flayra rewards us then I'm not going to pretend I wouldn't be happy about it. I don't really care if a potential Constellation reward will cause people to donate just for the reward; their money is all the same, and if Const. rewards cause more people to donate and keep NS alive longer then I can't find any problem with them. All the Constellation icon means is that the person spent their own money to help keep NS alive; regardless of their intentions, if they payed then it still applies to them. Don't think that it puts us on some sort of moral high ground, because in reality it doesn't mean anything. If you really donated just to help out Flayra, then why do you care if less reputable individuals donate for less noble reasons?

Honestly, I donated because I love NS. If Flayra put something on the frontpage that said "I need to quit NS development for financial reasons", I'd gladly donate some more. Anything else is a plus.

What? First of all I have no desire to PT 2.1, or any other build. Playtesting is a hard, boring job where most of your time is taken up with finding really annoying bugs and gameplay imbalances. I'd rather play 1 hour of 2.01 than playtest 100 hours of 2.1.
Secondly, it's not like we all saw the front page and said "Omg, a benefit!? I will join up right now!". Most of us, the vast majority, paid before there were even iconic benefits. We pay because we want to; any other reasons are our own. But I could hazard a guess that almost all of us believe that Flayra deserves it, and also that he really needed our help.
We're not sending e-mails every day to Flayra whining for benefits. We're not flooding the forum with requests for "preferential treatment". We did this to help NS, and Flayra, out of the goodness of his own heart, decided to give us a little reward. We did not ask for it, nor did we think we would get it. Whatever it is we accept it with thanks. But it is not and will be not the reason we gave money.

The reason I object to giving Constellation members special benefits (read: <b>very</b> special benefits, like PTing, or hacks) is because it turns the entire premise into a <i>payment</i> rather than a donation.
Constellation is a donation. When you donate to a cause, do not expect anything back. Usually when you donate to something, the something that you donated to will try to show its gratitude -- you have Constellation icons, and your names are also listed on the site, or something, to give you credit. And don't forget that it also makes you feel very proud that you donated to NS, too.
But I must say it again. Donating to Constellation <b>does not mean you are privileged</b>. It is a charity system, not a quid-pro-quo one. Trust me, I would donate to Constellation if it wasn't for the fact that I have no credit card. I wouldn't expect anything back from the makers except for the knowledge that because of my donation, NS will be able to flourish. An icon and a "thanks to" notice is also nice. But in no means would I see it as "paying" for the right to PT, or a new gun, or something.
PTing is a good example here. If Constellation members were allowed to PT, that means that theoretically PTing is a job that has no prerequisites (because literally anyone can PT). If that's the case, how come PTs for 1.x and 2.0 had to go through a rigorous selection procedure? Don't you think that might <i>invalidate</i> all the work they've done, to suggest that any old fool could have done the work that they did? Or that we might have a ridiculous game because all the PTs thought that Onos shouldn't be able to climb ladders?

Money from true hardcore fans is the same shade of green as money from people who want whatever nifty feature. It's a shame that members-only benefits would exclude some people, but it's also a shame that you can't pay web hosting bills or rent with gamer popularity.

Alot of people who donated after 2.0 came out did it for the Icon.
So if getting an Icon will help more people become a Const.
Then an Email or whatever will do the same and attract more ppl.
As for being a PT rumor. Never would happen, never will happen.
Its not as important now, but Donate because you love NS, not for any other reason!
As for people who said some people have just donated to gain *certain* benefits. So what? they're fully entitled to, if you want it as well you might donate as well, dont you think? People donating for any reason should be cause for happiness, instead I see absurd flames of something soo petty as a **** icon and a potential surprise. (Well knowing almost all constellation donated before they have heard of any benefits)
