Geekplay

Edit: Or type "play xxx.dem" in your console, xxx standing for the name of the demo

btw, you can get geekplay 6.0 from here as well: http://download.zerosignal.net.au/apps/Geekplay/

go to google, type in geekplay, find the download for it. I highly recommend it, its a great demo playback utility. I forgot the command to playback from the console, I am sure someone will englighten us if u don't want to download anything. Otherwise, Geekplay is really good.

Thanks, but now it is giving me an error message:

"could not copy the demo-file: the filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."

Have you ever seen this before, and if so, what have you done about it?

it might be helpful to actually mention that Geekplay is not a .dem player...

It merely launches a .dem player, one which you've had all along. That being halflife ofcourse!

So chances are you simply haven't told geekplay where your halflife directory is...

yes, you have to specify where the hl.exe is so it can use it to play the demo. Also Revenge if you read the whole post, you would have realized he wanted a external player, and I had already stated that you can play demos from halflife by it self. Just FYI, not meant to be hostile.

For clarifications: DEM files can only be viewed within Half-Life itself. You play them via the console, using the command "playdemo <filename>" (it may be "play" rather than "playdemo" - I forget).

Programs like geekplay allow you to launch HL and automatically start the demo, streamlining the process.
