Hey, REALLY new to the mapping community but I kinda had a wierd idea while watching LOTR. I know there are some CS maps about LOTR and I have them all. Is there anyway to open up these maps and edit them to make them NS worthy? I still can't find a way to open .bsps (if there is a way) but i'm planning on reading up on it. So any help or tutorials anywhere for this, cause I can't find them. Thanks guys.

    You can decompile, but it creates errors and is generally frowned upon. If you do decompile them, be prepared for a lot of work fixing all the errors created by the decompiling process, as well as the issue of getting the original author's authorization for you to do it... On the other hand, you could just ask the author... He may say yes and give you the files.

    Well yeah, i'll be getting his permission of course. I've edited some CS maps before, but they usally ended up sucking. But I think a as_moria map enlarged some and made with some timed doors, might be pretty fun.

    Well if you get his permission, then you won't have to decompile them.

    If you absolutely MUST decompile, then take a look at <a href='http://countermap.counter-strike.net/maputilities.php' target='_blank'>http://countermap.counter-strike.net/maputilities.php</a> (towards the bottom, you'll find WinBSP, a decompiling tool).

    I don't think the link for that specific file works, so you'll have to search google or whatever.

    If I were you, I reALLLYYY wouldn't decompile. 1) People will think you're lame for doing it, 2) Textures get royally screwed, 3) A lot of brushes might not show up, 4) Copyright enfringement if you don't get permission

    You'd be better off making your own map from scratch.

    Okay, I have my hammer all setup and assistants from a real mapper and website support. All I need is the original map files. Anyone else have some tips?

    I was going through ns maps with a hex editor and stumbled uppon a list of all of the entities, thier locations, their direction, and the properties. I think it may be possible to take out the CS entities, add NS ones and do it all without decompiling.

    Also noticed that maybee you could have map specific models for hives of Command chairs or res nodes. Even different models for each node if you wanted or 3 hive models. Gonna experiment and give my results.

    {."origin" "-64 -128 64"."maxspawndistance" "2000"."hivemodel" "<b>models/hive.mdl</b>"."angles" "0 0 0"."classname" "team_hive".}

    Yes, I considered making my own hive model for my co map. The hive room is a bit small, so I just wanted to scale down the original model, but I decided it was too much hassle. I ended up doing some rotation and making room for it.
