Or as I refer to it, DDR for lazy people, and unfortunatly something that tricks people into thinking they have rythym because they can push arrows really fast with their fingers. Heh.

<--- knows he can't dance but does it anyway.

wow cool!

I'd been using http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/
This looks pretty cool though so I'll definitely give it a shot... I soooo want a dual set of hard dancemats for my PC now lol.
Soft ones are just ick =P

Check out Dance With Intensity too. Had freeze-steps before DDRMAX brought them in, and has some of the most insanely stepped songs. Have a PC softmat, and can *almost* make it through V now.

Yeah, I can't keep my balance on the soft ones. But I think hard ones are 500 bucks a pop, and quite the spacehogs too.

Soft and hard mats take different reflexes, coordination, and balance. Most hardmats you really need to lean on, while a softmat just takes a light tap to register as a step. Found this out as I've beaten Paranoia on a softmat, but couldn't even walk through Boom Boom Dollar or Butterfly on an arcade-style mat. I just couldn't get my reflexes adjusted over to actually STEP on the plate, instead of just toe or heel tapping.

I think more people should do DDR, it's good excercise and I know this japanese guy who can do it so well he might as well be dancing o.O
Let's face it, some gamers just don't have a decent level of fitness and DDR is a way of letting them keep in shape and have a giggle while they're at it

I'm pretty sure you can get hard mats from lik-sang for pretty cheap and they're good ones too from what I hear. One of my friends at university got one but I never actually had time to give it a shot =/

forward forward back left left right edit: I don't like the soft mats mainly because they're kinda slippy if you try it wearing socks. Sure there's barefoot but even though that stops it being slidey it's just not the same as the good old proper dancedance mat. Like T said they're very different =3

I can't help but wear socks on a soft mat... keeps your feet from sticking to the pad and carrying it along, resulting in problems finding the arrows without taking your eyes off the screen. Though it does take more balance to keep from slipping at that point.

I'd go for the metal one. The plastic ones are VERY prone to breakage. Down side being, you'll need to find a PS2->PC adaptor to play DWI or the like with it.

<3 StepMania. Though I don't have a mat. I should be getting one soon. I bought the PS2/PC thing from Lik-Sang, and it turned out to be a Topway, so I was screwed out of about $50 CDN. :/ ($15 something for the mat, and an arm and a leg for shipping and import fees. Youch!)

My favorite song from the official mixes (I've only played 2, 3, 4 and 6...) is probably Dam Dariram, or 1,2,3,4,007. Also, I love B4U by Naoki. These songs just have awesome beats. (1,2,3,4,007 if I'm feeling a little slow that day. (It's got a semi-low BPM.), Dam Dariram if I'm in the middle, and B4U if I feel like a fast song.) What difficulty do you guys play on? I usually do Standard.

[EDIT] Also, DDR /does/ require rhythm. Its it's own form of dance, too. If you go watch a DDR competition, you'll see some of the moves these guys do. They do all kinds of cool dances while still hitting all the arrows.

what in the.... I weigh almost that much myself (I played football throughout high school), so with any pressure at all I'd break it.... no DDR for me I guess
