Violence in games, legit concern of media hysteria? Lots of people think that children are violent because of games so it?s the games fault for the kids going ?nuts.? People say that all of these kids are violent because of these games that they?re playing, like for example, almost all of the school shooting cases have shown that the shooters play violent video games. I think that the kids play the video games because they?re violent by nature so like to watch violence, these kids not only play violent games but watch violent movies, TV show, ect. But the media never tells about the millions of other people in the world that play these video games, they just tell about the thirty or forty other people who go berserk and kill a few people. I don?t think that these video games affect these kids in any way but are just attracted to the violence that they display. The media also never tells about all of the other non-violent game there are out there, only about one quarter of the games out there have ?blood and guts? in them. The rest of the games like RPGs, role playing games, strategy and non-violent first person games objective is not to be violent but to solve puzzles, generate worlds and create your own characters. Even most games with violence in them are not objective based to cause massacre and murder they are based on puzzles, like for example Half-Life is one of the biggest games in the game industry, it have violence in it like when you shoot someone blood comes out but that?s about it, Half-Life?s objective is not to kill as many people as possible. Half-Life?s story is that you?re a scientist working on portal technology and everything goes wrong and a bunch of aliens start popping in through portals so you have to get out of there alive. So Half-Life?s puzzles aren?t set up like mazes but are set up in real world things. For example one of the puzzles you might have it to get a train to work, the train has no power and is facing the wrong way so you might have to go through the map and start things in a certain order using logic, first you might have to turn the train around cause if you start the power first the train would run off and you would get stuck and loose, so you turn the train first then you turn the power on and then you get away escaping from the aliens safely. All the maps are basically puzzles the only difference is that there would be aliens that you have to fight through to beat the puzzles.
There are many games like Half-Life, actually most games are like Half-Life in the means that you have to beat puzzles. The only games the media concentrates on are games that?s sole purpose is to kill people, they find games like Rampage, Grand Theft Auto and Psycho, and I have no idea how they even find these games, I?m a serious gamer, I get game magazines every month and have never heard of these games until the media reports them.

the general consensus here is that
<span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'><b>PARENTING = GOOD
COMPLAINING = NOT PARENTING</b></span>
edit: and what i mean to say by that is that parents need to keep an eye on their gawddamn kids. no parent in his/her right mind would let them anywhere near a gun. especially if they were an unstable piece of rat sh*t, a la the columbine pieces of rat sh*t.
edit2: and those f***ing GTA idiots. of all the ridiculous, stupid sh*t you could do, without regard for human life. if your kid doesn't have regard for human life, you should probably KNOW about something like that? things stand out. not everything is confined to the basement, or a closet.
well you could spell 'mabey' right - Maybe. That should be an improvement <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

le sigh.
What GTA actually is is a sort of a role-playing game, but not like the AD&D-raise-your-stats-by-hunting-rats ones. In GTA, the RPG part comes from the player, who actually sort of projects himself on the in-game character. Some players will simply slaughter all the in-game people they come across, since they can get away with it, unlike in real life.
You could also mention that internet gaming turns people into ***holes. What, you don't believe me? Take a look at all the cheating, whining, name-calling and general fun-spoiling going on on FPS, RTS, MMORPG and other servers. Are people really like that or do they spoil other people's fun just because they know they're safe in their own house and the people who they've gotten angry are on the other side of the world, and thus not able to come over and slap them a few times?
um....... ........I would be mightly disturbed if my parents showed me a sex movie <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
heres an update on the report <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
A lot of the really violent people have never played a violent game either. For example the Unabomber never played violent video games yet he was one of the most violent people. Also the guys who crashed into the two towers probably never saw a violent video game in their life. People have been violent for years before video games had even been made, I think that they just need something to blame it on so they can easily blame it on video games with all if the new technology to get news out to the public.
A lot of people even like violence but that does not make them violent. Take your average male child, doesn?t almost every male child like violence? Almost every male child plays ?cops and robbers? or ?cowboys and Indians.? Most males seem to like violence but does that make them violent? If everyone who liked violence was violent them most of the male portion of the population would be violent.

he would also say, in the case of GTA, "hey, he's killing people (or able to, under the control of the player), because he's not killing REAL people. in the real world, human lives have a value that is immeasurable, regardless of religion."
"THANKS, daddy cwag!! we love you!!" [kids try to hug him]
"<i>BACK,</i> FOUL SINSPAWN! I WAS TOO SMASHED TO PUT ON THE RUBBER!!!!"

1) They were 16 and 14. Guess what rating the game is? 18. Thats one strike against the parents.
2) They had easy access to a gun. Strike two for the parents.
3) They knew how to load/shoot the gun. You cant tell me GTA showed them. There is no reloading! Who showed them?
4) They said they did it because they were "bored" and because they wanted to experience GTA in real life. I ask this: What kind of mentally deficient children were they!?! Do they completely fail to grasp the concept of REAL LIFE. Games are fun because <i>there are no consequences</i> lets put it this way: Who would play GTA if when you killed someone the police came round to your house and arrested you?

This is linked to by Sirlin, who also has a piece on violence in videogames, its a little less formal if you can't stomach the above:
<a href='http://www.sirlin.net/Features/feature_Violence.htm' target='_blank'>http://www.sirlin.net/Features/feature_Violence.htm</a>
I noticed you used the word 'kid'/'kids' lots. Try using words like 'children', 'youths' and other stuff to keep it different. If you reuse a word too often people will notice and it makes it feel less accomplished ^^
Sometimes it's good to keep a thesaurus to hand to help you keep each sentence fresh =3
As for reports they usually prefer it comes in a neutral 'formal' form, try and steer clear of 'I'; for some good indicators of the writing style I'm talking about check out any half-decent newspaper article <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
