I look forward to installing the new drivers when I get home. The 3D ASCII and Sketch filters look to be PAINFUL amounts of cool, the sepiatone slightly less, selective B+W a little less, and Pothole... well, pretty useless honestly. But I'd need to see it in action to find out if it does anything besides overlay an oval mask on the screen.

They are AWESOME TO THE MAX!!

No, seriously, I'll post some screenies in like ten minutes.

Edit: Voila...

Pic #3

All in-game shots, using the sketch filter!

Note that the sketch filter does dock your FPS a bit, but the others don't as far as I've tested.

sry to be critical( i am aNvidia fan to the core) something like that scretch stuff would keep me entertained for about a few hours. And whats so great about changing colors? i could just tape coloed shrink wrap on my screen, and not lose a single frame rate. i'll take a look at the drivers. chances are that those functions will work with any card, i may be able to rip them out and make it work on my geforec FX 5600, or kill it.

The cool part is that ATI thought to put them in there. And can do so with no performance loss, as they have *cough* DECENT pixel shader performance. >:)

The only part that worries me... if you're playing on Marines with the 'Sketch' filter enabled, will it make seeing cloaked Aliens easier? Same with the selective color mode, possibly being able to pick Kharaa out of a duller background? That could be... problematic.
I'm thankful also that ATI thought to put in per-game performance tweak options, just like PowerVR had with the Kyro cards. Letting you boost games that you've got extra power lying around on, without having to go in and manually switch stuff around every time you change between games. Now if they take it further and allow the 'advanced driver tweaks' (playing around with Z-buffer settings, triple buffering modes, texture compression types and so on) it'd end up being really cool. Of course, nVidia would probably take them and produce 'severe rendering errors' (again) to try and hype their slower, shoddier-looking cards.

Err, well, you could do that if you wanted to. I'll stick with my free 25mb download, hehe.

Oh, and so far, sketch is the only one I've encountered that's made me lose any frames/second at all.

Now if only there were a way for an HL mod to hook these filters. Personally, I could *easily* see the Sketch filter (perhaps tinted green or red) as a neat replacement for the Kharaa flashlight, if it enabled a fullbright as well. Fix the Marine flashlight to act as it does in a number of other mods (requiring ignoring the built-in HL flashlight and coding one up), and the NS guidelines for mapping up dark areas could theoretically be relaxed, allowing for fully dark areas and much more cinematic encounters.

(edit) And to add a 'down side', hook in the Pothole filter as well to rob the Kharaa of peripheral vision. (/edit)

saran wrap would affect performance though .... by static-ing your screen to hell and back
thats only your performance though ... but i think i win anyways

yeah, sketch pwns my framerate badly. But these are really nifty, and playing games in green ascii is hella fun -> you can't see jack, but it's so freaking awesome when you fire blindly and kill something. It feels like the matrix

Just a note... The new Omegas based off of the Cat 3.8s are ready to go. Get them here. I'm downloading. I'll let you know what how my Radeon 9000 takes to the drivers.

[EDIT] Also, here's a small known issue that they have, that we should be aware of....

"Quake III or Half-Life engine games remap the arrow keys to the shift key when the Num Lock is enabled. This issue will be resolved in an upcoming CATALYST? release."

Make sure that NumLock is off when you play Half-Life, mm'kay?
