how will we like it?
Ok, I have to admit I loved ns_nancy, but then I looked back at screens of SAI and I wondered... Will it have any problems? Marines used to be able to hold on 2 hive aliens quite well in subspace, and that was when we could web them and acid rocket. Now, I'm just looking at this loooong corridor in which the rines can just hold out almost all attacks made by aliens. Bile bomb? I don't think so... Blink in? Might get one marine and then you'll have to get out FAST. Onos? Well, if it uses the side hallway (the one from engine) it might get a stomp. Dividing marine forces or advancing them slightly helps that part. So... maybe the vents? Nope, the one on top of sub will hold either a skulk, a lerk or a gorge. (I hope that vent is turned the other way to prevent JPing the hive) Eventually a fade, but whatever you choose, it can just drop and get shredded by whatever's under. The vent leading to the middle of the hallway is also impossible to use. And of course, the weldable one. Only used for the advantage of the marines depending on the situation. Gas em? Yes maybe, but they'll have a couple of HAs after some time if they know what theyre doing.

So, if Nancy is redone, do you think SAI will have some problems in the current gameplay? (note: this is not saying that nancy will assure an alien win all the time) Will you redo subspace?

hint: What you could do to cause havoc is have the gorge in the vent, drop the hive, and have your whole team movement in when the hive is attacked Careful of the siege blasts thoug

Actually I think it will swing back to be very alien biased.

Let's be serious, it all revolves around Mess Hall. In 1.04, Marines could easily take and hold it. The easiest way was to just have all rines rush there immediatly, then drop an armory and mine it up. The *only* strategy that I *ever* saw work consistently against a good Marine team was the radical 3-gorge strat. You would have 3 people gorge up in Mess Hall imediatly, and just healspray the whole team (who would be there) while saving up for D. Once you got D up, you'd take down any Marine expansion and contain them by holding Mess and Crew Lockers.

Now, all the strengths of that strat has become stronger, and it has no real risks or drawbacks. You can drop the D immediatly and *still* cap a load of res, and have res left over. Marines will be forced to either go around, which is easier to stop with the new and improved skulks.. not to mention you'll have upgrades right off the bat and a healing station that works through the wall to Crew Locker... I think it will be an alien romp every time unless the Marines get Mess Hall.

As Marine you're probably going to have to either drop shotguns immediatly or siege out Mess Hall. Shotguns are risky, Siege (if it goes up) delays expansion... I think it's going to be very hard to win as Marine. You used to be able to tech up to JP on the 2 safe and 2 temporary (Noname and Aux) quick to get out, but now I think Marines are going to have a hard time doing anything but waiting for Onos unless they take Mes Hall immediatly.

If Marines take Mess Hall it's a whole new ballgame of course, those would either be interesting or mean a very quick and decisive win for the TSA.

me too, but that doesn't mean the majority will... Look at tanith, so many people hate it because of waste.

From having seen the layout of the new ventwork, I'll have to say that it'll be quite... problematic in the remake, for a JPer to shoot in and out of a vent in a Hive-attack. It'll be possible, sure... but it'll take a BUNCH of skill to get the timing and aim just right, without allowing a Skulk to just race up and rip you to pieces.

In any case, this would *probably* be better as a simple addition to the ns_nancy remake thread, in the Mapping forum.

I find that most forumites are WAY to quick to judge things before they even try them.
    Take Combat for instance.

I say, Play it then after its out and you have played it for a long while. Judge it.

That's why I'm just thinking about it. And I already did play nancy, already experienced subspace relocation and just think this might possibly perhaps be a problem. I never said it WILL, as I didn't see the new vent system or any change done. And I don't really know how hard it will be to actually hold SAI, but just judging by the length of the tunnel and previous standoffs, I think it could be a problem.

Though it might not at all.

I just hope Mother Hive isn't so damn dumb. Nothing like having a room with only 10 square feet of space you can walk around in.

The words 'faithful reproduction' mean anything to you? Yes, Mother is still going to be a PAIN for Marines to get around inside. It's a freaking HIVE ROOM. Marines are.. you know. *Supposed* to have trouble in them? Just don't turret-farm, and there's plenty of room to walk.

Well, maybe ns_nancy would have undergone changes like eclipse, hera or caged.

And actually, I hope more hives become mother-hive-like. There's no logic in hives like Refinery...

Isn't the point of the "faithful reproduction" of Nancy to remake it exactly as it was and give the map back to the original author so that they may alter it to abide by 2.0 conventions?

Read the thread. DevilDog said himself that he doesn't have the time (nor want) to work on Nancy, and has thus given the mapping team his blessing to make the needed changes.

Either way, I'll be happy once I get Nancy back in game.

roger. I don't want to think I learned the nancy vents by heart for nothing. I mean I could nearly move in it eyes closed backwards (k maybe not but backwards at least). I'm afraid I forgot them

Well then, you didn't forget too much. The vents ARE being reworked and simplified, as well as unified into a single vent-structure. Meaning the two vent systems will now be accessible from one another, allowing you to traverse the entire map as a Kharaa in relative safety... though from what I'd last seen, a couple of the vent-openings have been moved or removed. Others (such as Hiveroom vents) have been made less JP-friendly so you can't just HMG down a hive, perched mostly-safely in a vent.

And the recreation team are bringing the map up to v2.0 standards, but only with what needs to be changed to comply. No sweeping changes as with the MS on Eclipse. Though if all turns out well, visual quality should end up being much better, texture-wise.
