No Sound Vs Choppy Screen

The drivers for my sound card are updated (as per the instructions above)
but the problem i was having persists. Whenever i start a NS game one of two things happen: 1) sound is missing (only things like gun fire, walking, etc... ambient sounds are not missing) and the game runs smooth... or 2) All sound is present (gun fire, walking and ambient sound) however the game is really really choppy.
When i'm in the ready room the video runs fine... and even when the round starts it's not too bad... but as the game progresses the fps drop way down and it becomes impossible to react or aim at anything.

anyway, system specs:
pentium 4 1.8 GHz
512 MB ram
GeForce2 MX/MX 400:
64 MB RAM
but i can't find the specs for my sounds card. It's a creative SB live! series (WDM), but i can't find it listed on the creative web site, and i can't find it's stats on my computer.
