what ports need to be opened for ns and what would i open em up for. cuz if i dont have my firewall on it loads fine but if i have teh firewall on it takes like 4 retries to get into the server

so i have to have all those ports open on my firewall and how would i do that with zone alarm pro!?

it has nothing to do with ports being open

you don't need ANY ports open to play HL, you only need them for hosting.

this is probably a problem with your fire wall.
If it is a hard ware one update drivers and hardware.

if it is a software one, get a new one or go to their forums.
