Steam

<div class="IPBDescription">are we really going to use steam...?</div> Right. First off, i'm new to these forums, and i've been playing for about 3 months or so total. I think that this mod is especially well made and it has a pretty good community to go with it. However, Steam isn't...very......how should I put this......for lack of better wording...good. Steam is ludicrously slow at times, and the current WON servers are much faster. Steam is also, in essence, spyware for Valve. This probably won't change anyone's mind on the subject though. If we absolutely must use Steam, then I guess I have no choice in the matter. I just hope that at least some people will take this into consideration before it's too late.

Thanks for your time,
Kazuael

Steam is very bad atm but it will get better. The problem they had was that when they released it, it was really still beta. Now that everyone has to convert for CS v1.6 for CAL, it is being tested a lot more. Within a month it should be a great service to us gamers, until then, I still consider it beta.

Yes, those of us who intend to continue playing NS will be migrating over to Steam, sooner or later. The intelligent ones will do it sooner.

No, Steam is *not* spyware for Valve. It allocates a cachefile but does NOT null it. Meaning, anything in those sectors is still there. It was done to save time, rather than allocating a large, empty file. It is not read, nor transmitted to Valve. The only 'spyware' that Steam could possibly be is the kind that keeps cheaters from simply swapping CD-Keys when they are banned from a given server. And all of that is on the AUTH end, and in no way spies into the client machine.

If you'd bother to look and read, you'll notice a solid page of topics on Steam wending its way down through the older posts. Checking the reasoning that they are sliding away would provide a large amount of illumination.. namely, NS IS NOT STEAM. And vice-versa. Meaning, it doesn't belong in G-D. Feel free to discuss it on the www.steampowered.net forums. And so this thread joins the pageful, in wending its way down the forum-drain as it cannot be bumped again. Ah.. the peace brought to a thread which has been
