Since probably January every week of CAL NS season has gotten smaller and smaller in number of matches played. They sit at around 15-20 matches a week. Usually 1-5 are forfeited. Thats a max of what, 40 teams. Being top10 out of 40 teams competing is no big deal. Not only that but the skill of the bottom 30 teams is so far below that of the top 5 they wont even win a half, ever.
I love NS and it has been a LOT of fun...I loved beta testing and doing the vet program...but things just aren't going in the right direction IMO. 1.04 was the funnest version of NS, and since 1.04's release every beta patch has gone further and further away from that. NS:Combat is no exception to the rule. The first version of NS:Combat was really fun because it was new...but now basically noone plays it.
Natural Selection is fun AT ITS CORE: Skulks and lerks and gorges vs Marines.
Natural Selection is NOT fun as fades and onos vs Heavy Armor and Jetpack 3/3 marines. That is what ns:combat is. That is what classic NS has become. And as much as I've tried to bring the fun level back into NS it is NOT my game nor anyone else's here but Flayra's. Flarya is an awesome person and understands ALOT about programming, gaming, competitive play, and the community. But you can't have a competitive without competition...And that is what NS lacks. NS has a good basis for competitive play, but it scared away most people. The top teams scared away most people from competing. A new CS team feels like after a week of practice they are CAL-M level and have a chance of beating good teams. A new NS team will take 2 months or more before they even have a chance to beat a decent NS team. Probably 4-6 months before they can compete with the top teams, and by compete i mean still lose but win 1/5 matches against top teams.
Anyways, thats my feeling on the subject.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
After reading RoQ's post, I gave the topic some thought: All the well known clans are disbanding/leaving NS (including pandas, who just left for Halo). What's the point of playing NS competively anymore if there is no compeition? I'm part of a new clan (teamAnimosity) and so far, we suck. We're trying to improve, but because there's very few clans on our level, it's hard to learn what we're doing wrong because as soon as the game starts, we're locked into our hive/base and its gg another 0-2 loss. (BTW I gotta congratulate my team for not giving up yet, we've 2-0ed only once in our 15 scrim career. That's pretty moral killing, trust me.)
A clanmate of mine argued that there are many new clans starting up, and that a new generation of NS play has begun. So, what I'm asking is for any new clans to speak up here, give us a little information about yourselves and perhaps restore my faith in the status of NS competetive play.

We're an active clan thats actually been around since 1.0, but we're really low profile as far as the community is concerned, so i thought i'd mention us. We are out here.. and we will play.

Stop being off-topic dude. We are talking about new clans, not dead ones.
And the post you linked to makes no sense.
Clans are not dead, NS is still the best HL mod for tactics and the res model ha nothing to do with it. The 2.0 brought alot of changes, and already we have many new strats that DO work...
Think before you speak pls
BTW, Sweden wil teh 00wn jo!
Joining a fairly new clan myself (.wuR.) I know that there are new clans out there. I have to dissagree with scriming top ns clans though. After playing an abbreviated first scrim due to server crash where we were getting totally handled by one of the top clans I noted that we may wanna start a little smaller. Just joining a game and getting totally recked goin 0-2 probably isnt going to help your team that much. On the flip side after scrimming a bunch of other new clans and going 2-0 all the time wont help either.
But you have to start somewhere.
{FU} clan is a multi-gaming clan- WFA, Unreal Tournament, Star Trek-Elite Force, Raven Shield, Counter Strike and of course Natural Selection are some of the divisions that FU has. We also have growing contingents on BF1942 and other games. We have members all across USA and Canada, north, south, east and west.
We are strengthening our team for CAL. We need a few more peeps.
We practice once a week (usually on Tuesdays) and want to start scriming on Thursdays.

I have to agree with Lucid on this. Recently I left GoM to help found a new clan to try and spread the ns clan love to people who didn't have the chance to be in a clan yet and were willing to play everyday. After sitting in #findnscrim everyday and scrimming 2 - 4 times a day for two months we've gotten to the point where we can definitely surpass most of the "newer" clans and are starting to tie some of the middle ranking clans (not vets like dn or the HAMS, although they're mucho fun to scrim with) but clans that have been around since 1.0 but didn't take part in the beta test we've been able to tie consistently. It's hard early on, our first month of scrimming we must have gone 6-40 with only 6 alien wins the entire month. Stick with it and you'll come through though.
The most important thing for a new clan to do is find 6 dedicated peope, regardless of skill - because it won't matter your first season, just dedication, and get your but in gear scrimaging every day. In six weeks, I guarentee improvement. It's sad to see a lot of the veteran clans falling apart, but I can understand that since for the entire duration of the beta test they only had each other to play, and they're the only ones in each other's league. So I'd imagine it'd get boring fast 2-0'ing every nub clan in existance and then repeatedly alien tying clans that you know. I'm hoping 2.1 (whenever it's due) will lend the game a little more balance and hopefully up the competition.
That said, if you're looking for a relatively new cal team swing by Clan Unknown's channel #the? in gamesnet. We scrim for about 3 hours every day from 9pm est till midnight and take all challengers.
So, if there are any of you out there in a similar situation, PM me -- we would love to play you. We are very flexible schedulewise, but we do usually need some prior notice -- most of our players are older, and we don't sit on IRC all day.

Clan No Chumps [nc]: <a href='http://www.nochumps.com' target='_blank'>http://www.nochumps.com</a>. We're a new clan, loose alot, but we're trying. Currently we play only in UGL, but I'm not sure how it's going to go, our members are pretty disheartened.
Walks Among the Gorge Empire [wage]: <a href='http://wage.reaperville.com' target='_blank'>http://wage.reaperville.com</a>. You remember the posts by Jane and I about pugs? Well, this is the culmination of that. We're about 5 days old, and we're signed up for CAL and UGL, and we scrimm still. This clan has very high hopes, we're confident we'll be rising stars.
Enh, play teams above you then. [GoM] has spent the past month getting 2-0ed by dn pretty consistently, but I think those days are either over or very close to over, at least with our top string. If you need a pick-me-up, play a team below you. This has the added benefit of making you into one of the better clans that's available to scrim and help out newer clans.
New clans that need a pick-me-up can play other new clans. You'll tie, but that's a far sight better morale-wise than getting 2-0ed.

GG everyone who is trying to keep kickin' a little butt..
I just love it when people with absolutely 0 competetive play experience comment on something they know NOTHING about. GG.
P.S. wage has a lot of potential, but I'm afraid it might become a "fun" clan. GL HF to them tho <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->.
:: You don't have to idle #findnsscrim to find a scrim. Just go onto there whenever you've got 6 people and advertise for a scrim. It's not hard at all. ::

From this day forth, and continueing on for a minimum of 3 months, exoity (aka. xeno ) ( WONid: 2784049,SteamID: 0:1:21718 ) will be suspended for the deliberate and heinous act of multiclanning. This suspension does not apply to CAL-NS alone, it is effective for the entirety of CAL.
This is an extremely serious incident that should never have occurred. It totally destroys the concept of sportsmanship. Unless you want to see me angry, I suggest that you never attempt such a thing. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->I know this is off topic, but double-clanning is a serious issue and strictly prohibited in most leagues.
