<div class="IPBDescription">thats right you..flamers, i made one.</div> its a sentry mod...i started from nothing. it looks pretty good for my first time in MS3d.

i cant export it to a .smd because "a vertices isnt assigned to a bone"

I have no clue what that means. anyone care to explain?

you have to asigne all vertices to at least one bone befor exporting to .smd, and it also must have a skin that is 8 bit or 256 colours and it must be of the .bmp format.

u need to assign ur vertexes to at least one bone

    add a bone

    <img src='http://www.dillinja.de/tut2.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

highlight all the vertices, then go to the joints tab (make sure the joint01 is selected), and hit assign.

alternatively u could follow the tutorials that come with milkshape. there is one for a simple model, and 1 showing u how to make a P and W model of a knife

We're not going to hold your bloody hand through model making. Read tutorials or figure it out for yourself. Your choice.

im just asking how do i get materials.
  • CoolCookieCooksCoolCookieCooks Pretty Girl Join Date: 2003-05-18 Member: 16446Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor, Constellation
well first you have to skinmesh your model. then when you have your skinmesh, you skin over the net(skinmesh) that you made. i suggest using photoshop for making materials.

u need the mesh in order to make the skin. see makin a a skin is alot like a colouring book... first u make a mesh (just outlines of the model faces) and then u fill in the faces with photoshop textures. then u save as a 256 colour bitmap... understand that n00b muffin? well... did u?
  • funbagsfunbags Join Date: 2003-06-08 Member: 17099Members
    no i didnt.

You have to make a seperate drawing for each face?

<span style='font-size:13pt;line-height:100%'><b>Funbags</b></span>, understand this. Im only gonna say this once!

Read the tutorials about making a model. First then, when you have read and read and read, and understood how to do the basics of making models, first then you may ask those questions again, understood?

If you keep on asking these (sorry mates, had to make one) stupid questions, people will start to hate you, then start flamewars, then finally someone gets banned... is this really what you want? Think about it, will you?

UV Map = The mapped out coordinates of the object. It is a flat (hence map) representation of the model used for skinning. Please dont act like people are flammers untill someone does. Ask nicely (WTH is a uvmap isnt nice) and someone will answer. or you always could use the tutorials in the stickied topic up there.

does each shape have to be assigned to a joint? or can i group some (say the legs on a turret, the support legs, the barrel, and radar dish) shapes together and give the group a joint?
  • BAshhBAshh Join Date: 2003-08-26 Member: 20222Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
what the hell are you trying to ask? that made no sence to me...
  • CoolCookieCooksCoolCookieCooks Pretty Girl Join Date: 2003-05-18 Member: 16446Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor, Constellation
yes you can group them, like legs, barrel body etc.
  • BAshhBAshh Join Date: 2003-08-26 Member: 20222Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
oh oh i get it now.. joints form skelitons, and you can have only one joint and have them all assigned to it, or you can have a few joints and have certain things grouped to different joints. and you group things by their vertecies to a joint, not the whole shapes. (ie: part of a box could be assigned to one joint, and the others to another)
