Something To Think About

I have heard many time from fellow Americans "I do not like this Country!! Waa!! It's so oppressive!!! I hate this! We really don't have freedom of speech."

You my friend just proved your self wrong.

Let's take Mr. Dubya for example. It is your right as an American citizen to say that he is a bad president. That is freedom a speech. You could advertise it if you want. "Bush is bad! He's done a horrible job!!!" And that is fine, it is free speech.

But what you CAN'T do is advertise something such as "Bush likes to sleep with horses!" That is slander. NO free speech.

Here is an interesting little byte of info for you people who think that there life is bad because they live in the US or any western nation for that matter. (NOTE: when I say that, I mean people who think the country oppresses them.)

If you have money in the bank, money in your wallet, or even some coins in a spare change dish, you are among the top 8% of the worlds wealthiest.

If you have food in your fridge, clothes on your back, and a roof over your head, you are richer than 75% of the world.

If you have never experienced the horrors of battle (as a civilian), loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation, you are more blessed than 500 million people in this world

If you can go to church and worship with out the fear of harrassmant, arrest, torture or even death.. you are luckier than THREE BILLION PEOPLE that live on Earth.

And, if you could read this message. You have been double blessed.

1)Blessing that someone is thinking of you.

2)You can read. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Ok, Lukin has some points, but the P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act did strip away a lot of civil liberties that we should be able to enjoy. But you can't say the president sucks to his face, because the Secret service will beat you up.

They will accuse you of intimidating the president, charge you with terrorism, and ship you to a random country, stripping you of your citizenship in the process.

Yea it's pretty sad. Just 'cause he is president, doesn't make him better than you and me.

He might make some good moves, but I will NEVER EVER like Bush (the pres, not the band) because of the P.A.T.R.I.O.T. act. That's just one evil piece of legislation.

Basically without any evidence, the FBI/CIA can tap your phones, your email, your mail and access your library records, without a warrant. Before the P.A.T.R.I.O.T. act, they had to evidence/proof so that they could get a Federal Warrant.

Why do I have the feeling Ashcroft read that book and decided to copy it?

How is 1984 propaghanda? It just depicts how life would be if a totalitarian government was in control, it isn't based on any specific historical event but evaluates a few.

Propaganda is defined as any series of literature or media designed to influence people's thoughts in a certain way.

    1894 fits that definition.

1984 wasn't written to influence people but to warn them. I think a warning is a bit different than propaghanda.

The propoganda thats portrayed, 1984 itself wasn't propoganda, you misread me, or I miss-phrased, oops.

1984 wasn't propoganda, just a very scary book that is slowly becoming real.

    OHNOES!

    I'll just say this:

There's a <i>fine</i> line between the government doing an adequate job protecting us from terrorists and the government trying to take away the civil liberties we're used to. I doubt it'll ever be quite balanced unfortunately.
