<div class="IPBDescription">Which one do you prefer, and why?</div> I've run both ClanMod and AdminMod on my servers and probably lean towards favoring the latter. AMX I haven't a clue about though.
Which do you prefer for administrating your server, AdminMod, ClanMod, or AMX? And WHY???

Err, I'm not a server administrator here, so please excuse me if I'm wrong here, but ...
Isn't metamod required for adminmod, amx and clanmod?... (Although I believe there was an earlier non-mm based adminmod)

I moved to some servers to AMX a year ago, now all our servers are AMX. AMX sometimes has bugs, but Olo fixes them really quickly, no waiting years for a new release.
AMX allows you to use advanced plugins that just aren't possible in adminmod.
AMX has a working menu system that means your admins don't have to learn lots of new commands if they are a bit slow. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
AMX reserved slot system actually works and doesn't force you to use stupid setinfo commands.
Most plugins you like to use in adminmod are default in AMX.
If you use adminmod you can't use my make marines glow if parasited AMX plugin. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
i havent tried admin/clanmod yet but im very statisfied with amx, it is very customizable, it works, no bugs and the features are sensible...
After those adminmod servers I got offered admin on a pug/ scriming server running amx mod, so the command I used the most was just to turn the cal configuration on, the only problem is the amx way to turn on the cal configuration is a really stupid and long command that I had to look up every time. (aka pain in the neck) ATM I am an admin on a scriming server and he has it set up so that we just use rcon, which has been really easy to use, the commands are simple etc, so that works well. Though the public server runs amx mod and that’s not really my favorite thing to use. (there is also not a good place to get a list of commands to use)
Summary: If you’re going to be running a scriming server, just using rcon seems to be a fairly easy way to have things done, but for public/ clan servers I think adminmod is by far the best way to go, it’s so much easier on the admins, and if it’s easy for them, then there are less questions and problems for you to deal with so… yeah, that’s my two cents.
very easy to install and use. I just like the way it works all the options and commands, reserved slot system is great, the admin config file is very customizable.
many great plugins were made for amx. it's just like clanmod in some way, but better, and more powerful.
i never liked adminmod, hard to install, setup, and it's bugged...
<a href='http://www.amxmod.net/' target='_blank'>Amxmod</a> = r0x!
btw; many bugs were fixed, and new things were added in the new version 0.9.7, could be found on the forums, for both, linux and win32.
I got tired if fighting with the software. Sounds like the Windows of old, 'eh?
I tried clanmod, but it always felt incomplete. I also hated the "GUI" approach. I'm a CLI guy. Navigating three, four, or more levels of menus felt clunky compared to whipping up my console and typing two or three words. I couldn't add the features to or tweak the behavior of ClanMod the way I wanted, so it was scrapped rather quickly.
I finally converted to AMX less than a month ago. My initial impressions are fairly good. Configuration is a little convoluted, some major documentation work could be done, but the core is there. Same extensibility as adminmod, but a smaller, cleaner base feature set. Stable as a rock so far, which tickles me. Installed a few plugins, played around, made a few source tweaks, and have been running happily ever since. I'm not completely satisfied, mind you. I have some ideas for cleaning up the configuration side, some of the features that are enabled by default should probably default to "off", and some of the configuration defaults don't seem right to me. Lots of documentation work to be done as well. Perhaps I'll get off my butt and suggest (or even author) my changes one of these days.
AMX currently has the closest approximation to ideal in the features that I desire: configurability, ease-of-use, speed, stability, and extensibility.
I have read over and over again that AMX requires less processing power while Admin Mod is bloated, and that AMX is more stable, etc. etc. It reminds me of the Windows vs. Linux arguments. The truth is that I run my own dedicated server, and play that server from the same machine. As a result my setup is sensitive to processor load issues.
I have never had any problems with processor load issues with Admin Mod. My dedicated server on my AMD Athalon XP 1700+ across half a dozen mods and half a dozen difference versions of HLDS, including 1.1.2.0 (Steam), with Admin Mod, LogD and a number of different Admin Mod and Metamod plugins, consistenly uses less than 1% of my processing power, allowing me to play the server from the same machine without problems, and any server stability problems I have had, have never been related to Admin Mod. It has been as solid as a rock for me, from day one, through half a dozen or more different versions.
As for Admin Mod being bloated, my experience is that it is as bloated or lean as you configure it to be... kinda like AMX...
The final selling point for me though has been the attitude of the developers. When I set up Admin Mod the first time, I was a complete server admin noob. I knew nothing. However, my questions were still answered patiently and thoroughly.
When I tried to set up AMX I was not a server admin noob. I had set up my server for a dozen different mods, I had experimented with dozens of different plugins and configurations. However, I couldn't find answers to the most basic questions in the AMX documentation, or on the AMX boards, and all I got when I asked questions was attitude.
There are exceptions, but the majority of the AMX developers seem to have the attitude that if you can't code you're not worth sharing the time of day with. I am a small server operator, and I actually got it in writing, from OLO himself, that unless you are running a 24/7 16+ person server, he doesn't care what you think, and won't bother to take the time to answer your questions. In fact, he basically told me that if you didn't already know the answers to all the basic questions you might have about AMX, he didn't have anything to say to you, even if the answers weren't provided in the documentation, or on the boards. The attitude that I recieved reminded me of my worst days in junior high, where if you weren't in the "In" crowd, the best you could hope for was to be ignored.
As you can well imagine, that kind of ****, superior attitude turned me right off AMX.
Having said all that, I don't code, I am trying to learn how however, and it may be that, once I know how to code I might gain a greater appreciation for AMX, but for right now, my impression of AMX is that it is a fashion statement. If you use AMX, you're cool... and frankly, that kind of crap has always made me itch to choose the decidedly uncool option...

AMX 0.9.7 has seperate files now, users.ini and amx.ini
and, there are many people in amx community willing to help now, simply post on the forum. never had problems with that...

Where would I get a hold of AMX 0.9.7? (I looked for it on the boards and only found 0.9.6j.)
0.9.6j = 0.9.7 <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
I had an issue where only the 1-5 keys were working for me in menus. Searched the bboard on amxmod.net and found that I needed to make bind additions for 6-0 just like 1-5. For some reason these are missing in the default ns config.cfg. Just duplicate the 1-5 binds for the rest of the keyboard numbers and you're good to go.
Yeah, but it's trivial to make AMX scripts which use keys 6-0 in menus to bind them for the client.

Ya like it simple, dontcha Golex?? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
