Welding Points

I see icons that are on maps that look like you are to weld something. I set up a server, played against some bots, and welded a few points, but I saw an effect in only one case (I welded near a comm tower and it blew a hole in the wall, I think the other points may have closed the vent shafts).

Are there other icons I should be on the lookout for while playing like that one?

The weld points are the only interactive parts of the map, apart from doors and lifts. The general rule is this: Weld everything, keep doors shut and lifts up. That way you restrict the alien access and you can tell if someone has been a certain way because the doors are open and the lifts have moved. Keeping doors closed also keeps the kharaa guessing as to whats behind them and gives you an early warning. I remember we had relocated to cargo (this was pre 2.0) and I was defending the main entrance. Standing in the corner i could cover one hallway and with the door to generator shut i could tell if any kharaa where coming the other way. I managed to take down quite a few aliens that way. We had mined the vent and another team mate was camping it, and they could get in. They had the rest of the map, but we had 3 nodes secured and that was all we needed. I cant remember if we won though. i think we may have done

I thionk You were playing ns_origin or smthn. You fixed the Satellite and it malfucntioned and laser came out and blew a hole in the wall. 1st time I did that, I wet my pants thinking it was a new Alien weapon <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

once that wall has been blown through, the next wall into the hive access can be destroyed, so, while it is a very good siege point, it is not very easy to defend
