The Gorge.

Since when did it become a bad thing?
Lately I have noticed a fast decline of gorges on public servers. Yes. Public. So that means don't start by saying "while in my clan scrim last week". This post is also a vent of annoyances and slight anger.. You have been warned. It may sound just like a bunch of "nubbish whining" you may feel the need to respond with "if you don't like it, don't play" or something to those extents. That is your opinion, I have already been flamed once today for me trying to even voice a small part of this opinion, I really don't see how one flame could be too different from another.
Any ways, that having been said, there is a fast decline of gorges. After the first while of 2.0x the " beginning of round gorge res rush" died. What next? Well, a select few people who want to help out their team by putting up structures after the initial, now small, gorge rush get stuck as gorge. Yes. Stuck as gorge. I mean, someone else might go gorge for a moment to put up a hive when they have res, but you are pretty much stuck there because that person will go back to skulk or what ever they can afford after that. Now, these select few permagorges will constantly get stuck like this. The last 8 normal sized (4+ per team) rounds I have played I have been a permagorge. Now, I loved gorge back in 1.04. As long as you tried, you would always get "nice try gorge" or "Good job gorge" when the round was over. You would always have enough res to build what your team asked for. No matter what you could do your job. Now? Well, the people are still asking for the stuff, but without the 33/66/100 res cap and extra res to gorges you really can't do anything but wait. You get to sit around while people with 60 - 100 res scream about how they need defense chambers or a hive when you only have 5 res. Now, I'm not saying this is only a problem with res ****. Oh hell no. People just don't realize it. Yeah, the odd time they will actually notice "hey, that gorge is the same one we have had all round, he probably has no res at all. I should build something to help out" but for the most part its "We have a gorge, he can take care of it." Well, he can't.
Now you are probably going "Yeah, what is his point? That person can always ungorge right?" Yes. Of course they can ungorge, but facts are if they constantly get stuck as permagorge they realize one thing. The gorge is still the backbone of the alien side. He never changed. You need a gorge, lets face it. The "we need builders" call is not outdated, its right. You need builders, plain and simple. A constant gorge is just easier for the team. If you go without a builder you run risk of losing resnodes, upgrades and so on. You can not afford to not have a gorge if you really want to win.
So I ask you, since when did it become a bad thing to be a gorge the entire round?
Since when did people stop thanking the gorge?
They never stopped needing structures, why stop thanking the person who built them?
This entire reason for me to write up this started when some morons from a clan going by the tag of `bs joined Lunixmonster. The game was near its end and I jokingly said "Can you guys just hold off a moment so I have enough res to go skulk before the game ends". I proceeded in being flamed to hell by the members of `bs clan for that, but it was more than true. I was the gorge. I had just built them upgrade chambers, 2 RTs and a hive a little while earlier. We only had 2 Rts before that and the team was quite a fair size. I truly had no res.
In the ready room I explained to them that while they hoarded resources for onos I was out helping the team by actually building stuff. Again they flamed me. The next round they repeated the exact same thing. Except mid round they left saying the server was "too n00b" for them, without spending a single respoint to help the team. Not to mention the wonderful amount of time they spent flaming people who I believe are good members of the NS community.
Yeah. So I wrote this out of anger. I wouldn't say they insulted my "skills" or anything. Just.. yeah. Annoyed. The next time you notice a permagorge, thank them. Chances are they are bored to tears trying to make sure that you guys have what you need to win, not to mention having no res at all to build it with. A thanks is more than appreciated. Being a permagorge right now is a thankless test of patience.

I'd like to add that those "clan" members represent a small portion of NS players that you should pay no mind to. They'll do anything to boost their own egos even in the defamation of others.
u cant just say "well just dont go gorge" because if u want to win the game, all those hording fades/oni who think they win the game for the team. i cant think of the amount of times as a gorge holding and rea with circle strafing oc building while marine are shooting/dying to them trying to get phase gate in my hive (yes my hive!).
too many players are complaining at me for not getting chambers/res/hives when all they have done is save for onos the entire game.
I have about had enough of you people being abusive towards the clans, WTH have we done to you? Did u meet a few clanned people who were abusive? IF we play on a public, just because we dont play like we would normally, doesnt make us bad people, we play on publics for the fun of it? Personally i find clan players who play in public at the same level as match play are the annoying ones, mostly we wont do that, its just not fair is it? (AND i realise this isnt specifically fronted towards ALL clan members, but still.)
Anyway, last time I went gorge on a public I did perm gorge Its good fun sometimes, giving your skulky brothers 500x their life expectancy As long as they keep me alive, i keep them alive, fairs fair
Anyhows, perma gorging isnt as much fun as it was before 2.0 . Although if you have friends playing with you, you can set up some quite funny incidents.
Display individual alien res on the scoreboard!
(to fellow aliens only)
Only when we have enough res we go "HAs now , onos time" , and that's not a bad thing (instead of a single hive 1 vanilla onos you have several hive 2 regen celerity onos)
Random thought:
Display individual alien res on the scoreboard!

Marr, that is good. Has anybody ever thought of this? This really might end reswhoring!
It's all about the team: if they see that there are no gorges, or that there are too many of them, they should do what is necessary. If not, they're are not fit to win. "Let the better team to win."
To answer another issue that came up, i think the "Perma Gorge (the gorg getting more res per tick than other aliens)" was taken out because of the no res/hive limits on lifeforms. I think they left in the original gorg res and the res-node-sucking in the playtesting stage, but they found out that quite a few people went gorg, sucked res from the team (and the nodes), just to save up and go Onos, which is very annoying (it was annoying in 1.04 too, with people going gorge simply to get a lerk or something).
Anyway, res whoring = not bad if they're good at what they're saving for.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat idea!
With 100 res, you can build a hive, a resource tower, and three upgrade chambers. Would you rather have one crappy single-hive onos on your team or a team of celerity/leaping skulks paired with bile bombing adren gorges and adren/regen lerks?
I think the choice is very clear. Too bad people think of themselves before the team. Everyone seems to think they're "more skilled" than the rest and deserve the 100-res alien.
Combat, for example, would be a mode you play for 20-30 minutes and can still be in a team.

UUug! No!
In a perfect world with nice people the rez scoreboard thing would be awsome. But damb, I have yet to be on a game where their hasn't been 2-3 whiners, complainers, or commanders. (An this is on the alien team!)
If one of these colourful characters saw you had 30 rez and a node they were close too was uncapped I can hear it now. "Come here and go gorge you noob! This node needs capping and you got the rez!" or how about the poor sod who gorged the whole game and then wants to be a fade? "Your a gorge! You have rez! Jesus we need 2 more defense chambers stop being a rez hoar!"
Scoreboard rez is one of those great idea's that would cause issues due to the personalities of the players. I never thought about stuff like this untill my first friendly fire server. One guy thought it was funny to kill his team mates the whole game. Once by mistake, sure funny stuff, but on purpose? These are the kinds of people who play on Pubs and that has to be taken into account when they add features.
Now on the subject of res-hording. Guess who the worse offenders are. Clanners. Now I'm a clanner myself, but I'm getting real sick and tired of watching other clanners running around, hording their res for Fades and Oni. I've even seen veterans doing this. It's just not on. If you have 50 res and there's no 2nd hive building, or the 2nd hive is building but you have no upgrade chambers, you know what you should be doing, and it ain't Fading. It's really sad when the people who should know the most about teamwork blatently ignore it.
I perseonally think that 2/5 - 3/5 of the team should be gorge and that onos are worthless w/o stomp and celerity (smart marines will know how to coordinate, trap, and kill an onos, and its muchmuch ezier to do so if your slow and disabled)
If your whole team is reshoarding i think your team is doomed more through stupidity more than upgrade issues. I've noticed most ppl who gorge often and help the team typically are better in combat.
No, really. On the average pub game I help my team the most by going fade and protecting what we have as well as killing their nodes. I don't know why some get so **** at this.

Always make sure you ask first. Most teams, at least the ones I play with, have no problem with someone going early Fade, as long as the team has given their consent. If the marines are res-electic rushing then an early Fade is great, but an early 2nd hive is even better. So always make sure to ask. If the team says "Please put up the hive instead" then do that and go Fade later. And btw, how can you suck at dropping hives?! It's not complicated
For example, put up a hive prematurely and it gets taken down. 50 res down the drain. When is "premature" just depends on the game's circumstances, of course.
Although my suggestion to display res might lead to a greater amount of whining, it might also provide an easier way for the aliens to coordinate fiscal policy.
Permagorging isnt nice when its EVERY GAME ON THE TROT. I really can't suggest a fix for it, since it happens on every server. My only solution is to spectate, or go marines. If you're more like me, then drop sensory, refuse to build hives, spam OC, whatever, it'll force them to learn to gorge.
If they don't, they lose. But its only a game, and tbh its fun to watch them lose because not one of them can gorge.

Then you can speak back and say "I gorged up the last hive" or whatever. It does no harm to legitimate players - only to idiots who hoard. Don't get me wrong, EVERYONE KNOWS THAT AN EARLY FADE IS ESSENTIAL, but YOU MUST TELL THE TEAM IN ADVANCE. Hoarding in silence LOSES THE GAME.
You should only be afraid of res being displayed if you're a chronic hoarder and poor player who would be terrified of being discovered. It'd be handy on lots of servers, and useful to admins who want to get rid of uncooperative hoarders.

You know whats funny.. I just finished a game like that. 5 on 5. I couldn't figure out why I was the only one trying to stop the rines from building under our hive.. then all of a sudden.. 4 Onos come in, kill everything. The game wasn't that far along so they had to have been hoarding from the start.
Scout: "They got Onos!"
Sarg: "So."
Scout: "I mean they got Onos's!"
Sarg: "Good lord"
(The game ended pretty quick after that. Pretty funny.)
People are STILL saving res for . You'd think people got over that around mid August.
