Anti-mail?!?!?!? hotmail screwed up
I suppose that 99% of the people here get at LEAST 1 spam e-mail every day, so I thought it a bit odd, when after the past 5 days I hadn't received a single e-mail. Nothing from people I knew, no e-mails proclaiming a zero interest mortgage, none of the "enhancers" for my maleness, nor a single adult advertisement. absolutely NOTHING.
eh... maybe I've gotten lucky the past few days, right? wrong.
my bud calls me, asking if I got a recent e-mail about internships, one of which looked pretty dope (3 months, $14,000 hell yea). Nope. didn't get it... but I'm on the e-mail list...
I try sending myself an e-mail from a dummy account that I just setup, and... the message comes back saying it was undeliverable... WTF?
A quick connect to hotmail tech support reveals.... "all is well and working with your account, you shouldn't have any problems." I was wondering if it was perhaps my filter settings, yet I hadn't touched those in over a year...
A quick check reveals... yes. my filter settings HAD been changed. they shunt all e-mails to a junkmail folder unless its allow list and immediately deletes the ones in the junkmila folders, but I don't have an allow list...
WTF? I NEVER used this feature before, so why would it be activated. never gave out my passwords to my account, yet somehow the settings were changed, and not by me. Grrrrr. this REALLY pisses me off. I missed at least one important e-mail that I know of, and possibly more.
/me is seriously thinking of switching to a different free e-mail provider

Though recently their server went down for a couple weeks without warning but they send a very apologetic letter blaming their ISP.
I found it on this site of free POP3 mail providers. There are a few others there that might be worth looking at. Subdimension was quick and easy to set up and I check it using Outlook Express for web-free email. Not too bad on the spam front too, anything that gets through usually ends up straight into my trash folder anyway due to my selection of filters.
