The Good Old Days Ov 1.04

Well, I have only one thing to say: NS was better at v1.04 than now.
More challenge, more stuff, more bugs(sigh).
I mean, when you play now, say, 4vs4, what can you do with an average/good team against aliens? Aliens expand, get res + secure it with 2 ocs, and you alone can do nothing against it ( well almost nothing). As far as they hold 4-6 res, they go onos vs marines at lvl1(max 2) upgrades - and what marines can do? Exactly. Nothing.

I know some of you might say - the game has now shortened, more dynamic, etc. But. You forget one thing - its not about dynamicity or pace - its all evolves around about gameplay. And what gameplay you can get when you are being rammed with onos after 10-20 minutes since game commenced?

I understand, there was bugs in that version, but they weren't that much of them to screw the gameplay.

I wish OzForces put an old v1.04 NS server so some of us can play there.

    Well, I have only one thing to say: we're tired of hearing this. NS 1.04 was plagued with huge balance problems and innate design flaws, and 2.01 is infinitely more balanced than 1.0X ever was. Using 4v4 games as an argument to say NS is unbalanced is ridiculous, not to mention the fact that NS has always been as bad about small games(that is, partly, what Combat is for). No offense, but to say that marines have no way to win against alien expansion just shows a lot of ignorance of the game.

    Most importantly, 1.04 is gone and it's never coming back. These topics are not only pointless but rather irritating as well, so give it a rest. If you think you have good ideas on how to improve 2.01 that doesn't consist of "go back to 1.04", feel free to share it in the Suggestions forum.

    Apart from "I have only one thing to say", Zek is right. How can you miss the days of marines needing only one or two rts to comfortably win? Holding two nodes was no big deal with no Fades or Onos around. Send out two or three rambos to kill alien nodes and the Gorge (no rfk, so killing them didn't give the aliens an advantage, and alien resource chambers didn't heal themselvse either, so the Gorge had to come and do it, risking to fall into a trap) meant that the chances of building a second hive before the first one was killed were pretty slim.

    I'm not sure I completely agree with the "huge balance problems and innate design flaws". There were only two big problems: Fades were game enders, and with no Fades, jetpacks (which could be researched and handed out before Fades) were a game ender. Without these two (albeit huge) problems, 1.x could have been really good, and 2.x might never have turned out the way it did.

    So tired...

    You complain about Onos at 10-20 minutes? No offense, but if you think it takes that *long* to get Onos, you've been playing on the wrong servers. Neither does it take that long to get anti-Onos equipment (JP + shotgun or HMG, weapon upgrades).

    The game is faster, but it is still much more balanced and varied than 1.0x ever was.
