What would be nice if there was a simpler version of Valve Hammer to use and make it easier for mapping.

Like have all the stuff that's in it now and all ya could do is have a "copy&paste" feature for applying textures, then a button called "sounds" to apply any sound you want.then another option to make walls and raise n lower them to desired level.

Also after the map is done there could be an easy "autogenerate" minimaps/sprites,overhead views,Or maybe another simpler way to make maps is design a "paint" program like mspaint, paintshop pro but have it designed like Valve hammer etc and use some of the options I described above.

I bet if there was some way that this could be done or something we would see beautiful maps done easily and released much sooner and faster.

Wishful thinking. I think Worldcraft/Hamm4r Edit4r will always be a confusing program to use with a steep learning curve. But that is just me.

Hammer is actually one of the easiest mapping progs out right now. In my opinion.

The world editors themselves aren't hard to use. It is a pain to map because of the neverending crashes. Right now I only use UnrealEd , though it uses more ressources than WorldCraft (first thing I tried) , it is way more stable (there's a reasonable chance of anticipating crashes , while WC/hammer ed frequently locks the system for no reason at all)

Mapping isn't actually hard... It just takes time , a lot of time , and frustration , but you've achieved something when your map is playable.

To be honest, it sounds like you want the Build level editor. It did all of those things. I miss making maps for that engine. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

But the problem is, we're making 3d environments here, as was shown with the build editor, making any form of detail or "rooms above rooms" was a massive hassle. I picked up hammer and straight away i was able to make detailed environments, and i haven't touched the editor since back in the early days of Worldcraft, so it was like entirely starting afresh.

What it sounds like, to me, is that you want an editor to do all the work for you, but really, it isn't that hard at all, just sit down, read some tutorials, play around, learn the interface and you'll be making maps just as fast if you had all these functions that would supposedly make your life better. Also, you'd have a lot more varied, cool looking maps than if everyone was using a generic map editor to make generic maps.

In short: Learn, it really isn't that difficult.

*EDIT: Also, there is an automatic minimap generator, NS does that itself. Just load up your map with the -dev extension and type "buildminimap" in the console, wait until the progress bar is done and you have a full working minimap, sprites and all.
