I might run an NS RPG, but I'm going to do it like classic RPGs. Not just this obscure, sickening writing down of various thoughts that pass for RPGs here, but both real WRITING, and with RULES.

I'm using the Shadowrun system. Naturally, I'll need players that:

1) Are proficient writers.

BAD

*Me gets bag, leaves and gets in car*

GOOD

I grabbed the satchel by one of the handles and dashed for the car. It awkwardly smacked against my legs, tripping me up.

Get it?

2) Knows the Shadowrun system. All you need is the core rulebook. Naturally, I can't make this happen unless players already have that book, because there's no way in hell I'm rewriting all 200 pages

Shadowrun is a great realistic combat RPG (Just needs one tweak with full autofire). It's got nothing lame like hitpoints in it. A combat monster who'se been slaughtering people left and right is still flesh and blood: One bullet to the head and he's down. That's why I like this system. If you're interested, or I can interest you in the system, the book is $30.00, you can probably find it at a games shop near you, as they began repornting, or look for it at http://www.shadowrunrpg.com/

Who'se interested, and has books they own / can <<borrow.>>

This won't be a typical NS RPG. Melee combat is awkward in all RPGs and I'm not sure how well it'll work all the time, so there will certainly be something different in it.

Which edition of Shadowrun? I've got the entirety of 3rd edition, minus one or perhaps two non-Scenario books sitting on my shelf. As well, a good chunk of the 2nd edition stuff has been gathering dust (missing the Rigger's Black Book among others). Was really into it for a long while, and was the rules-repository for more esoteric aspects on a couple of SR MUSHes.

Obviously the setting is going to be in the NS universe, but how much of the social environment (aka: Back Home On Earth) will be duplicated from SR? Any decking/rigging going to be involved, or just the combat aspects? Custom weaponry or armor? Bodymods? Bipedal drones? Walkers?

Also, SR might be a poor choice for an NS-themed RP, as SR's melee combat is SORELY lacking. Even the most seasoned martial artist can be taken out with incredible ease by any schmoe with a pistol, as there is no real dodging or misdirection modifiers in the combat rules unless you get into Adepts, and even then it's unpleasant unless EVERYONE is going at it hand to hand.

3rd edition. CANNON COMPANION IS RECOMMENDED AS WELL. Dont' worry about source material. I'll make available what's necessary.

I, too, am concerned with the melee system. I can probably find a good house rules setup for it, but... I'm going to keep melee combat to a minimum. You'll find out why later. I think for what melee there is, will be fine. Notice how in NS that melee isn't necessarially a hit, hit again, hit again. It'll be a lot more like 'You get hit, damn, you're dead...'

As for decking, I've never been much a fan of that. The reason: Decking only happens to the one player who'se decking. This means that the GM has to devote a lot of time to making the game fun for that one player, and all the other players have to 'sit it out'. It's like your very own rambo chapter. So sorry to take the fun out of it, if you planned on decking There will not be a commander, so someone with computer skills will be necessary. I might do SOME decking... but I ran a run with a decker and spent three hours with our decker trying to turn off cameras, extract information, and eventually we said 'screw this' and threw dice to see if he succeeded overall.

This game WILL be based in the NS universe. However, it won't be your typical 'let's go in and kill everything' NS GAME. In fact, if you're playing thinking that it will be like that, you're going to be... surprised. The only thing is that it's in the NS universe. Keep that in mind.

I haven't gotten much anything done for story yet. I'm not spending too much time on that until I can find at least a handful of people to actually PLAY it.

Oh yes, I'm also going to have two threads on this.

An 'OOC' (Out of character) thread where you post out of character questions, etc.

An 'IC' (In character) thread where you post nothing BUT character interactions.

Finally, PLEASE OH PLEASE disable your sigs for the IC thread. They're big, ugly... yeah....

    Oh:

    1) You will be planetside, but I wouldn't recommend being a full-time-rigger. You'll get your chance at using pickups, helicopters, semiballlistics, what have you

    2) Cyberware, don't go overboard. Smartlinks are ago, but... I draw the line around wired reflexes 3 and titanium bone lacing

    3) All weapons from Shadowrun are allowed! I'm not going to mess with making custom guns for LMG, HMG, GL, simply because all those and more are already present in the material. (NOTE: Availibility restrictions apply. No Panther Cannon for you )

    4) No drones, for obvious reasons

I'll clarify more on these later when I have time to draw up preliminary plans, and have enough people to make it happen.

So basically plan it like a Shadowrun Lite. I'm definately using it because of the weapons rules, computer interactions, etc.

Once again, I strongly recommend cannon companion, and maybe even Shadowrun Companion.

No drones? They're a part of the fun of being a rigger... you can support your squad with additional units, scout with less danger, and so on. Only other thing for riggers to do is drive the car in chase scenes anyway. :b
Mostly was curious to that one as I've already got two characters which were denied for lack of backstory in one case, and out of fear by the GMs in the other (even though all was to ruling code). One being a sentient bipedal drone (Scud), the other a fun body-dysmorphic dwarf who went by the name of Zim, and had about a dozen bipedal drones and JIM suits set up to be rigged (think: one man Troll assault force that can easily turn into a dozen trolls plus eleven humans... he rode around in one of the JIMsuits himself, the Megadoomer).

Was it going to run by standard sheets, or assigned values? I can only assume no magic involvement. Any custom weaponry permitted? (No, no Panther. It's too flashy, has too much of a kick, and doesn't get the job done)

Perhaps meeting up on IRC to discuss more in depth would be a good idea, to avoid spamposting.
