i personaly think steam is not cool
their is to much work and i hope ns is not a part of this

uh... whats ur problem with steam? Personaly i have found it to be pretty cool. I love the in game message system and the interface seems more accessible and usefull.

Only problems I've found with it:
1. My old comp i started playing half-life on (P2-400, 300 something ram, GeForce2 64meg) can not run steam games well enough to be competitive even on the lowest settings. Maybe it's time to move on from that little comp but...
2. In game message system could be exploited. Now when your dead in CS you can message a live person and cheat.
3. Not being able to change what mod your playing while in game is a real ****. I realize that every mod or game is now its own seperate "game" with it's own exe but i think there should be a way to make your game a mod of another game so it uses the same exe and can simply be switched in game.

Besides these three pretty minor things steam is pretty cool, it really is a step forward in over all useability, once they iron out more of the bugs (and there are quite a few) and get more bandwidth (I have trouble getting server lists some times) it should be really cool.

One last thing at my college I know the network can cause some problems but I never had trouble through WON and now I have a lot of trouble connection to servers, it will just bring up the server info window and never join. More info plz! Why isnt it joining! Tell me when you bring up the window damn u!

You have basically just said you want NS to die.

Steam is out of our hands, and if you can't get it to work, well your problem isn't steam my freind, it's you.

Steam is really good..all bugs are fixed(or most)

The only ones bashing Steam anymore are CS noobs..which i hope we dont have anymore in NS.

I don't like steam, not with my poor little SDSL choking everytime it tries to update itself. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'> Without Steam, my connection is fast enough to play with decend pings (at times, changing between 50-400, depending of how full the line is). It just can't handle it. So, thanks but no thanks.

Meh, my steam wont work. When NS 2.1 comes, I'll redownload it, heck I might before hand since I'm donating extreamly soon.

Steam doesnt work for a lot of people. I cant even connect to a god damn server, and if this is whats going to happen to me every time I try to play, screw steam, forget it. I cant be the only one with this problem.

Please take a look at one of the other threads that goes along these lines. You'll notice that most of them are locked.

NS is going to go to steam, and there's nothing to be done about it. I'm wary of steam, but NS has to go across in order to survive. No point crying over spilt milk.

i kinda do agree, STEAM is crap right now, and they shoulda waited and tested, and sorted the bugs out first. snidley is right, unfortunealy... no one i know wants NS to die, seeing that NS is the 1st of its type.

I can't run STEAM on one of my two computers. STEAM does really suck, you think they coulda made it usable/stable at least, but meh...

There really isn't a choice. Go flame valve or something, but not here dude.

I believe that WON had problems when it first came out. Meh. Like all programs it will be buggy and they will work it out. It will just take time. The point is, whether you like it or not, the switch will be made.
VALVe is most likely reasonable enough to not scrap the WON system until Steam is fully functional for a lot of players.

Steam has become very stable for me at least. My only beef with it now is it's speed. VERY slow sometimes and pings get a little high. (I get 150-200 pings on American servers with my cable modem, not to mention I'm running on a 600 MHz Pentium III, things get a little ugly)

But this is another Steam thread, it'll either sink down into oblivion or get locked pretty quickly.
