Another problem with PC is that the people that harp about how good it is, have no idea how much the majority of the country hates it. These "PTA soccer moms" are about as in tune with the real world as a banana. We are after all the "Generation X" with our "gangsters" (god thats another thing for another topic). Do thse PC people actully watch MTV, although I don't for the fact it is garbage, most kids do. PC people need to wake up, I'm sick of minorities running the country, and acting like the majority.
I hate to double post, but theres a perfect example right here in the NS forums. The "bad words" filter, now for starters I think its safe to say that anyone who has ever visted these fourms has heard the "F-word" before. But due to a few people who may have complained, or a few people who may have abused by saying **** ever other word, I know people who talk like that its not pretty. The curse words are censored. Now we all know that they still exist, covering them up with *** isn't going to make them go way. Its the exact same thing with race.
*Dissclamer* I am in no way shape or form oposed to the filter, as far as I know it has always been on (can't remember that far back). Just makeing a point by useing an example <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> .
Just replying to an earlier post regarding the Founding Fathers owning slaves. Washington decided to release his slaves when he was on his deathbed. Thomas Jefferson refused to release them, even when he was on <b>his</b> deathbed. To quote Jefferson, in regards to African Americans:
<i>"They secrete less by the kidneys, and more by the glands of the skin, which gives them a very strong and disagreeable odour."
"A black after hard labour through the day, will be induced by the slightest amusements to sit up till midnight, or later, though knowing he must be out with the first dawn of the morning."
"Their griefs are transient. Those numberless afflictions, which render it doubtful whether heaven has given life to us in mercy or in wrath, are less felt, and sooner forgotten with them. In general, their existence appears to participate more of sensation than reflection. To this must be ascribed their disposition to sleep when abstracted from their diversions, and unemployed in labour. An animal whose body is at rest, and who does not reflect, must be disposed to sleep of course."
"Comparing them by their faculties of memory, reason, and imagination, it appears to me that in memory they are equal to the whites; in reason much inferior, as I think one could scarcely be found capable of tracing and comprehending the investigations of Euclid; and that in imagination they are dull, tasteless, and anomalous."</i>
Quite apparently Jefferson treated and thought of Africans as inferior animals. Indeed, when he was drafting the Declaration of Independence, he did not consider African Americans to be part of the equation "...all men are created equal." He refused to release his slaves, even when he was about to die! To say that what our Founding Fathers considered valid for the times is equally valid now is simply false. This goes for racism, slavery, and yes, our worship of any particular God or even atheism. These men were mortals, and they were far from perfect. We have learned this over the course of time. Political Correctness is merely a way to fix the problems we've had in the past, in order to adapt to a modern society. Relaxation of this means you prefer to roll back to the old days, where political incorrectness was tolerated and even encouraged. I don't think we really want to go back to those times. We've struggled far too much over the past 150 years to overcome our past.

Well I never said any of that. And my post wasn't directed at you. To be honest, I didn't read this entire thread. I saw the first few posts talking about our founding fathers, slavery, god, et al. I just wanted to point out that what our founding fathers believed in should not be considered gospel. My posts about fighting over the last 150 years was not in terms of slavery but civil rights across the nation, and across the globe.

Political Correctness is not about you "suffering" for our father's sins. I don't think restricting youself from saying the N word in mixed company is really suffering, do you? I am not discussing anti-discrimination because I think there are some major flaws in affirmative action and the like. Purely from a PC point of view, which I think is what the topic is about, sensitivity to people dislike yourself can be achieved without you having to compromise anything other than your own humility. I take it that you do not have a need to use the N word for any practical purpose, correct?
The first amendment is not an excuse to be insensitive for no reason other than to exercise your rights. Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD. That's what being PC is about. Any person on this planet can be immature and insensitive if they so choose; it is their ability to understand when and when not to be immature that defines their character. You wouldn't walk into a funeral and start peeing in the casket of the recently deceased. Just because no law exists explicitly forbidding you from doing so doesn't make it socially acceptable. That is the essence of PC.
There are too many wars fought with ethnicity as a core issue... PC is about trying to prevent the spread of hatred to your children, and your children's children. We've come a long way. Don't revert these gains merely to express your desires to protect your first amendment rights. It's not the civil or socially-responsible thing to do. Pick something else, like maybe your dislike of Shrub, to flex your freedom of speech. Remember, <b>children listen.</b>

Thats just it, what our kids see in their school books, does not relate to what they see and know about real life, makeing them dull and, in the case of my book, stupid. The PC lobbists target text book companies because their easy targets, and they don't want to get caught up in any messy lawsuits for "disscrimnation" wink wink nudge nudge. my view so far... If it doesnt matter when everyone in the book is a white male, and it doesnt matter when the 'populations' of text books exactly matchs the population who reads said book, why does it matter when theres 50% able bodied, 50% disabled.. (in other words there are more important things to argue about than whos in what book)
Yes, but it's just one more thing you notice after while, I listed many other things but people keep bringing up the books, so I keep defending my postion.

First I'm not the only one who noticed this, its a rather not so private joke at my school that "everyone" in Mexico is crippled, due to the fact that every picture in our Spainish book had a crippled kid in it. I have nothing agianst crippled kids, most of them I'm sure would agree with me on this. That company that made that book took it to an extrem, to the point where it became stupid, thats the only "silly" thing here. Books are not the only thing I mentioned in my argument about us being to PC, there are many other things, which I mentioned, some I'm sure I missed.
As for the Euro, sorry I don't know whats on them I was just makeing an example <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

...such as?
my view so far...
If it doesnt matter when everyone in the book is a white male, and it doesnt matter when the 'populations' of text books exactly matchs the population who reads said book, why does it matter when theres 50% able bodied, 50% disabled.. (in other words there are more important things to argue about than whos in what book)
